Are you playing tonight?
I'm throwing something together before I leave. LOTS of VERY nice horses here. PPs http://japanracing.jp/_news2012/pdf/121121.pdf I think I'll stay away from obvious favorites except for one, Wonder Acute, as well as sentimental ones (seriously I have a list of like 5 so why don't i not?). Okay putting Miracle Legend (no, really.. I think she'll do well) and Wonder Acute (who I'd imagine by post time would be maybe the 4th favorite - something like that) on top and using Grape Brandy as well as the obvious guys (Espior City, Transcend, Roiman Legend)in the 2nd and 3rd spots. That said I really do love Civil War, To the Glory and Rulership but leaving them out... Good luck if you're playing! |

Sunday Star, are you playing this weekend?
Too bad Coachie isn't around. PP's, February Stakes... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130206.pdf Data analysis... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/130207.html Preview... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/130212-02.html |
Thinking of using Grape Brandy and Curren Black Hill in the top spot with Silk Fortune, Testa Matta with Danon Come On and Garbo to fill out the tri.
Still pondering. Good luck if you're playing! |
Grape Brandy won at 10/1. :)
|
Using Crown Rose in the top spot in the Oka Sho with Kurofone Surprise, Ayusan, and Meisho Mambo underneath (leaving out Red Oval... a mistake? Not sure if she'll be the favorite or Kurofone Surprise by post time).
Will probably add Tosen Soleil at the bottom of a super and hope she's not too nervous! I think she's going to be very very good in time. We;'ll see. PPs... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130327.pdf Good luck if you're playing tonight. |
Ayusan wins, Red Oval, Princess Jack and Kurofune Surprise.
Congrats to anyone who had it. I didn't. Love it when they jockeys are happy for each other (I know, I'm a moron for saying that). PPs, Satsuki Sho...
http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130403.pdf I may not know much about pedigree but I do know the son of Kris S and Cesario is one to watch. That said, Epiphaneia will be bet waaay down so looking elsewhere for the top spot. Codino and Logotype should take a lot of money as well so I'm thinking of going with Red Ruler, Tamamo Best Play and Fame Game in the top spots (and using the favorites to fill out the tri / super). Not sure what to do about Camino Tassajara but am pretty sure whichever way I go it will be incorrect. :D :wf Good luck if you're playing. |

Lots of old timers lining up for the Tenno Sho (next weekend) including Jaguar Mail (9), Meiner Kitz (10), and Tokai Trick (11).
Red Cadeaux has been there for nearly a week now... he's the only international runner. (He's owned by Ronald Arculli, the former Chairman of the HKJC). The favorite almost never wins this race so it should be fun to (try to) cap! |
Yasuda Kinen - Hong Kong Entries (!!!)
24/04/2013 The following horses have been entered for the Yasuda Kinen (G1, 1600M, Turf) to be held at Tokyo Racecourse on 2 June 2013: · Ambitious Dragon (A T Millard) · Glorious Days (J Size) · Pure Champion (A S Cruz) · Xtension (J Moore) |
Gold Ship is a fantastic horse and will clearly be the huge favorite tonight in the Tenno Sho but like I said, the favorite usually doesn't win this race so looking elsewhere.
I like Admire Rakti. He's at 18/1 in the morning line and am thinking of using him in the top spot. 2nd fav will be Fenomeno and have to use this one and Gold Ship in the 2nd spot. Looking at some of the big longshots to fill out the tri / super... maybe Red Davis and Forgettable (cute name :D). Not sure what to do about Red Cadeaux but prefer Tosen Ra if I'm gonna look to fill out the tri / super. In terms of sentiment, good luck to my favorite old warrior in the race, Jaguar Mail. Morning line... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130427.pdf PPs... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130417.pdf Good luck if you're playing tonight. |
LIke I said the favorite never wins this race.

Early pps, the Victoria Mile (Whale Catpure, Marcellina, et al)...
http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130502.pdf (Next Sunday. Well Sat. night here). I know Whale Capture hasn't been too great lately but I love this horse and will throw something together using her, Donau Blue, the favorite Verxina and Joie de Vivre cause now that she had one back from being so hurt... well I do think she'll show how good she was.
Will toss Ichiokuno Hoshi in in the 4th spot. Can't use them all and leaving out Sound of Heart and Hana might be suicide, but rushing through and have to make a decision. Good luck if you're playing. |
... Anyway...thank you, Whale Capture. :D

For anyone interested, here are the pp's for the Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) tonight.
http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130509.pdf I like Kurofune Surprise (so pretty! :D No really.) but Take up, ummm... maybe in the 2nd spot. Like Tosen Soleil and she has Craig up but it's her first time running left-handed and Toyko is a tough course. I like Red Oval here (Strong Returns little sister), kinda like Ayusan (Oka Sho winner who just narrowly beat Red Oval home) but maybe not in the top 2 spots. I think Denim and Ruby will be the favorite. For value I'd use Floor Craft (terrible name), Princess Jack (loved her dad) and Sakura Plaisir. Red Oval Sakura Plaisir, Ayusan, Floor Craft, Kurofune Surprise " " w/ Princess jack is how my tri is looking as of right now. Who knows. :D Good luck if you're playing. |

Early pps for the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) on Sunday (Saturday night)...
http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130515.pdf I would assume Logotype will be the favorite BUT Kizuna is a seriously nice horse and one to consider. Just sayin... |
yeah, kizuna looks to be a serious threat to logotype. and i still think epiphaneia will have something to say about it.
|
Quote:
Excited about this one but then the Yasuda Kinen is the following weekend so lots to look forward to! Interesting that Meiner Ho O is opting for the Derby instead of waiting, isn't it? No rider yet for Helene Spirit (not announced anyway)... hope they bring Chadwick over (and Whyte for Glorious Days. I kow that's his regular rider BUT because of the jockey standings in hk who knows what'll happen). Can't wait! |
Hey Sunday Star what do you think of Hiraboku Deep?
He's at 17/1 in the morning line and I know how good all three are that we've talked about (and I guess Codino with Craig Williams onboard is a must-use underneath as well but...)at this point but I think I might go with him for the upset. Am I crazy? Hiraboku Deep Kizuna, Epiphaneia Kizuna, Epiphaneia, Logotype, Codino with one of the huge longshots like Lovely Day (190/1? He's not that bad!) or Flamme de Gloire (71/1) in the 4th spot. Good luck tonight! |

In looking at form for the Yasuda Kinen, a couple of things to keep in mind....
The favorite almost never wins (Vodka did but...) and, according to the JRA, horsies with odds of around 10/1 to 14/1 seem to do pretty damned well. Six 6 year olds have won in the past 10 years and horses who have run at Tokyo have an advantage (in terms of finishing in the top two). Glorious Days is 6 (funny cause on some sites it says he's 5. For all intents and purposes, since the JRA thinks he is 6, let's leave it at that! :D ) (oh and yes I know about the southern / northern hemisphere thing as far as age, I'm not that stupid. Just kinda funny how in HK and NZ he is one age and in Japan... why don't I shut up now) , was there last year (he didn't do well), should be around 5th, 6th or so in the betting, has Doug Whyte (HK champion jockey for like 12 or 13 years) and hasn't been worse than 4th this season. Just sayin... HK Raiders trackwork (Helene Spirit is a gentle and quiet gelding? What a great line). :) Tokyo trackwork - Monday 27 May 2013 | Japan Racing Association Training report of the international entries in 63rd Running of the Yasuda Kinen (G1) (1600m) at Tokyo on Sunday. The international horses entered in the 63rd Yasuda Kinen were transported to the Tokyo Racecourse, leaving the Horse Racing School quarantine facilities in Shiroi at 11:05 and arriving at the international stables at 12:55. Comments taken from the connections upon arrival are as follows: GLORIOUS DAYS (AUS, G6, brown) "The trip here, which took about two hours, went smoothly and he looks fine. We did some speed work this morning back at Shiroi, so he'll only work lightly tomorrow. His trainer, John Size will be coming here this afternoon, so his training, including his speed work, will be up to his decisions. Douglas Whyte, the jockey, will fly in at the end of the week, so he will not be riding him until the race." (comments taken by King Yiu Yan) HELENE SPIRIT (IRE, G6, chestnut) "The travel from Shiroi was no problem for this horse—he's a gentle and quiet gelding, and he's in good form. The trainer, Caspar Fownes will be here on Thursday and may have the horse do some speed work the next day with the jockey, Gerald Mosse who will fly in the same day. So till then, the horse will only do slow steady canters including tomorrow." |
Quote:
wow, that was a fun race to watch. kizuna runs like his daddy. probly not as brilliant but he's fun to watch. just loping along in the back very efficiently and kicking strong at the end. i'm sure the epiphaneia connections feel like it was stolen from them. epiphaneia looks like a real talent. but is he turning into one of those hard luck horses? it seems like everytime they showed him on the backstretch, he was bottled up, checking, never really comfortable. makes you wonder what he could do with a smooth trip. it should be fun following these guys going forward. |
Yeah he reminds me of his dad too. :)
BOOM! Glorious Days drew the perfect barrier (6), 11 for Helene. For the record I do like Verxina so much but I don't see her winning this. yep, lord kanaloa was just too good. i really thought he would get beat but he's just too sharp.
that's too bad about joie de vivre. i was hoping her breakdown wouldn't be fatal. |
