My boss missed her flight to kentucky, she was going to be with Eight Belles connections.. since she said she would be in the winners circle if Eight Belles won, and now she missed her flight and isnt going... It is almost guaranteed that Eight Belles will win.

Not to state the obvious, but can't she take another flight?

Yea id say screw it too, that 24hrs trip from Austrailia wouldnt be worth it, now flying a couple hours from Florida...

brianwspencer 05-02-2008 10:23 AM

I would just like to add to my original post in this thread -- that if it's sloppy or wet at post time, Visionaire goes to the top of my list and everyone else drops down a notch. Other than that, I don't want him.

I know your from Ft Lauderdale, my post made as much sense as your boss saying 30hrs away from the derby It wasnt meant to be to take a two hour flight to Kentucky to hang out with the connections of a derby contender who can make history. It also aggrevates me that people dismiss certain things that other people would kill for especially an opportunity to get into the winners circle at the derby.

Believe me she is bummed. Work also got in the way, unexpected meetings w/ home office and we insure a lot of the derby horses so times are busy. also there could be other circumstances. sometimes things dont work out.

Gosh i was only trying to say that eight bells is a lock now.

Bob, I was being a wiseguy they live in Florida. I was making the point of there is still plenty of time to go its not like they live that far away. Im sure I didnt have to explain that, but...

Antitrust32 05-02-2008 11:22 AM

I could be wrong on my top picks, but that plug Denis of Cork will not crack the top 10. I'm amazed at how many people on here are picking this horse and NOT picking Big Brown. He had one more race and he's only posted one decent Beyer off of a god damn dream trip. Not to mention his trainer is nothing more than a glorified groom.

Good luck wasting your money on him.

Coach,
Looks like you and I are the only ones to list Tale of Ekati...and first at that. I'm still the only one bombing on Z Humor I guess. I love Col John but the angles worry me...still he might be my top pick by post time.

Don't overlook Gayego in the Ark Derby.

Juicy odds on both.

Monba (also have him in Pool two), along with Denis, Col J, and Court Vision.

Just so I'm not noted as a redboarder on Saturday evening, I'll share that I'm planning to put Anak Nakal in my combo's, though I haven't determined exactly how yet.

I don't think I've seen him mentioned here yet.

Obviously it's a selection based on good racing luck over bad racing luck, but he's won a Grade II stakes over this surface before, and looked to be improving in his last race. He's come out of the outside of the gate his last three starts, and I'm banking on Bejarano being able to get him in pretty good position out of the 3 hole here. Also banking on Bejarano getting more out of him than his last couple riders.

I'd like to see the filly hit the board. Colonel John is un-proven on dirt. His work at CD might have been over the top.

As I go through 70 posts in this thread so far I see no one with Cowboy Cal in their Top 4...I've liked this horse for a couple of weeks and think he can we win the race.

If you look at his pattern it is tremendous coming back to his 2 yr old top on the turf. Mind you in that same race at Laurel he ran a 3 on the turf. Barbaro in that same race ran awesome and got a 4. He just matched that 3 in the Blue Grass and ran a great race every step of the way. I don't think he is a need the lead type like everyone else. He has inherited the lead in a few of his races and hasn't given me the look on a rank front runner at all. His top race as a two year old he wasn't in the first flight of horses....A Giants Causeway out of a Seeking the Gold Mare can't dirt?....I take the works in the weeks leading up with a grain of salt. Important sure but I never want to be talked on or off simply from a work when a horse has a history....That being said, if you could give me one horse based on a work from the past 2 weeks it is Cowboy Cal. Easily the best work I saw...but I know, I know, it was on the Poly....True enough.

1. Cowboy Cal
2. Eight Belles
3. Pyro
4. Big Brown

I still think he's going to get one of the very best trips in the whole race, it'll just be whether or not he's good enough. We'll see.

Denis of Cork will win, mainly because he'll drop back at the start with Borel, and will deftly avoid the carnage on the first turn. With so many speed horses crossing over, in the slop, amidst the thunder and lightning, I fear the worst catastrophe in Kentucky Derby history:(

Coach Pants 05-03-2008 09:13 AM

My sane friends on this message board..

Can't you see the error of your ways? Look at the post above me. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!!

brianwspencer 05-03-2008 09:34 AM

Well, like last year, I went through and added all this up.

I used the same 5-3-2-1 format that got us the Derby exacta last year to calculate it.

Side notes: For those like Jamie, who can't seem to just pick four horses, I split the 1 point between your fourth and fifth horse. For those who said they were going to use these X number of horses but were unsure of the order, I split the 11 points evenly between the horses you listed, rounded to the quarter point. For those who listed nearly half of the field, I ignored you.

And I got this:

Colonel John: 90.25
Pyro: 75.5
Big Brown: 54
Denis of Cork: 40
Z Fortune: 35.5
Court Vision: 33.5
Visionaire: 25
Monba: 24
Eight Belles: 23.25
Smooth Air: 19.5
Gayego: 18.5
Tale of Ekati: 12
Cool Coal Man: 9
Bob Black Jack: 6
Z Humor: 6
Recapturetheglory: 6
Cowboy Cal: 5
Big Truck:4.5
Adriano: 3
Anak Nakal:0
