And the story on Pal?

Paul

cabvmd 07-01-2012 08:32 AM

Great Day!

Was at Monmouth Park (not working for once) for a charity affair. In one corner of the club house My Dad, Mom, sister, niece and I watching and all yelling go number 6, go number 6.:zz:

Made a nice score. :$:Thanks to every one on Mott's staff in Saratoga.

Nice sequence of works and a gate work just before the race really seemed to be the ticket, he broke better and really settled. Great ride by Junior.:D

I am going ot print up his sale picture and his win picture an d put them in a side by side frame for my office.:tro:

It's hard to put into words what happened with Pal, even this morning with a chance to cool down a bit. I do not want to sound like I am bashing jockeys who, essentially put their lives on the line every time they go on the track, but it is hard to imagine what some of the guys are thinking about, in particular the jock yesterday. Montalvo breezed the horse for the vet and both gave the green light to go on.
In going over the race, Gary, Steve and I were all in agreement that Pal was pretty much the only speed. When Gary asked Montalvo what he thought, he said he wanted to take back and make a run, when Gary and I disagreed with him, he copped an attitude. I told him I thought he would get the lead easily. With that he walked away and when Paul gave him a leg up he said to Paul that he would never ride for us again, that we embarrassed him....I think it's not too far a stretch to figure out what happened next. When we spoke to the rider after, he said the vet scratched him, and when we spoke to the vet (the same vet that watched the breeze), he said the rider scratched him. I probably would not have believed the story if I didn't see it with my own eyes. I am still shaking my head and I won't say anymore about this right now. Incredibly frustrating....

Wow, that is unbelievable. It is not like Montalvo has people lining up to ride him. Thanks for the information.

oh wow. so sorry pg and everyone involved.

as for toy cannon-gratifying to see him win. i really liked the horse, but while waffling on whether to get in (ny bred, and knew i'd never get to see him live) the shares got bought up.
he looks great in that pic, glad he got the win for you guys.

keithting 07-01-2012 09:42 AM

Congrats to TC and everyone involved...

I did not see the race live, but on replay it seemed that Toy Cannon was just "toying" with the others. It really looked like he was just "out for a jog" !!!

Thanks Steve and all involved...It has been such a while between drinks and I was so thrilled with the win that we went out to Carabbas last night and took advantage of their "2-fers on SAT night"..

Go Cannon....Hope to see you at the SPA...

Many Others 07-01-2012 10:17 AM

I might have to make a mid week stop at Belmont and say hello to Montalvo in person in the paddock area. ;) does this pinhead understand English, or should I bring a friend?

Only kidding...

Cannon Shell 07-01-2012 05:38 PM

How can you embarass a guy who is winning 4% and 8% ITM for the meet?

Storm Cadet 07-01-2012 05:51 PM

Cannon, I never said I was going to embarrass him...just gonna say hello.

Kasept 07-01-2012 06:22 PM

Pal jogged for the vet this morning and was promptly OK'd and scheduled for a Wednesday clearance workout. Paul talked to Studart and she will w

Maylan will work Pal on Wednesday morning. Hopefully he will get the green light and she will ride him next time he makes it to the gate.

Hud..

Pompa looking to any of the NY-N1X's with no specific target in the book. There are any number of opps between a mile and mile/sixteenth and will be interested to see him go 9f if one materializes..

Glad everyone is happy with the photos... Have several more if anyone was missed or those that aren't in Toy Cannon but would like a copy. Drop me an Email.

Cathy.. There was no agent. I picked out Toy Cannon and brought Gary to see him. He liked him a lot as well and we bought him in back minutes after he fell just short of reserve.

Keith.. As of last week, Cannon was still at Belmont. I'll check with Mott or Krissy (Mott's SAR assistant for those that visit) to see if he's come back since I've been away or when he'll return.

Gary's barn will have My Pal of Pals, Corybant and Spondulix (arriving from VA this week) to start the meet. Ausable may stay at Belmont a few weeks after Sunday's race. Will know more in next couple of days..
