Java's War not going to UAE Derby.. Bluegrass.

Titletown Five won't enter Sunland Derby.. Louisiana instead.

Was the Illinois Derby always 2 weeks before the Kentucky Derby? I thought it was 3 weeks out...

Was actually 4 weeks. Same as Wood & Santa Anita Derby. Since Churchill omitted Hawthorne from the point system, they figured they could do something different to give the race some importance as a Preakness prep.

Storm Fighter (Gary Stevens to ride) and Summer Exclusive to the Santa Anita Derby.

Vyjack fans should be rather pleased if they haven't seen the video of his work Friday with Head Heart Hoof. Not only is the drill sharp, Vyjack finishes with a tremendous double gallop out.. YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PibDchGwWiU

The Wood is going to be terrific.. Current probables/possibles:

Verrazano (Pletcher)
Normandy Invasion (C. Brown)
Vyjack (Rodriguez)
West Hills Giant (Terranova)
Elnaawi (McLaughlin)
Are You Kidding Me (Attfield)
Mr Palmer (Mott)
Always in a Tiz (Schettino)
Indy’s Illusion (Tagg)
Quinzieme Monarque (Albertrani)

Siete de Oros (Preciado)**
Speak Logistics (Plesa)**
War Academy (Baffert)**
Tiz the Truth (Baffert)**
Power Broker (Baffert)**

Some good horses are going to miss the Derby because connections didn't shop and ship for easier spots.

Is anyone banging on the table saying how strong the Spiral and Sunland Derby came up? Both are 50 point races.

Wow I was unaware that Churchill didn't include them in the point-system. Was this due to any beef between Churchill-owned Arlington and Hawthorne, or the fact that probably a legit Derby Contendor hasn't come out of that race since... War Emblem? Sorry if I'm omitting some obvious horse...

Will Always in a Tiz still be ridden by Paco Lopez? I'm not giving him much of a chance in this field, but if he's matured a little I'm curious about him. He's seemed so green in his last couple races.

She wins it and is eligible for both the Derby and the Oaks:eek:
How does Govenor Charlie get a bigger Beyer than the obviously more impressive and totally geared down Midnight Lucky?
This might be the real problem with the new "Point" System.
Does the filly get points only for the Oaks?
She might be favored at this point against most of the male contenders.
Does she go the route of Rachel Alexandra and dominate the Oaks then win the Preakness and Belmont?
That would be a rip off!

What made her "obviously more impressive?"

goodcopy 03-25-2013 10:13 PM

Bejarans Ride

I thought Raphy's ride was as motionless as I have ever see!
Never touched her with the whip and was completly geared down the last 1/16 New track record!

Weren't there 3 track records there yesterday?

Bejarano seemed to ask her a bit early in the stretch and then she was geared down. She's very, very good. But would you really want to bet her 6 weeks from now in a 20 horse field going 10 furlongs?

goodcopy 03-25-2013 10:28 PM

No, Your are Correct

I just thought that this is a bias gaff in the point system
J:confused:ust like to see if anybody thinks she is good enough to beat her male classmates

I don't even want to bet her in the Oaks. I don't believe a single thing from that track.

The only thing that I will say is that generally, that CD surface, plays alot like the Sunland track was on Oaks and Derby Day. Not necessarily speed favoring, but razor tight.

I'll be using Departing Saturday. I think he's pretty good.

Per Santa Anita Stable Notes, Demonic is possible for the Arkansas Derby or the Blue Grass.

Dunbar 03-31-2013 06:58 PM

Palace Malice may run in the Blue Grass. Pletcher sounded like it was a real possibility on TV immediately after the race, and Cot Cambell said the same thing as quoted in an article in the Augusta Chronicle:

"Not quite ready to concede that there is no Run for the Roses in Palace Malice’s future, Campbell noted, “If he comes out of this thing all right, we’d have to take a look at the Blue Grass (to be run three weeks hence at Keeneland). He deserves another chance.”"

What right thing? The horse was fine in the allowance comeback, and had a dreadful post/trip in the FL derby. What is exactly wrong with him that they couldn't regroup and take a look at either the Lexington or IL derby then Preakness? Or give him a few more weeks and maybe the Peter Pan / Belmont route?

To run twice since November, then say he's off the trail because "We're going to take our time with him" sounds all too familiar from that barn. That's all I meant. I would not be surprised if that was the last time we see the horse on the track.
