Dr. Daniel Varga, of the Texas Health Resource, says the worker was in full protective gear when they provided care to Thomas Eric Duncan during his second visit to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Varga did not identify the worker and says the family of the worker has "requested total privacy."

If the preliminary diagnosis is confirmed, it would be the first known case of the disease being contracted or transmitted in the U.S.

Dr. Tom Frieden, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said the diagnosis shows there was a clear breach of safety protocol and all those who treated Thomas Eric Duncan are now considered potentially exposed.
:eek:and all the people they come in contact with?

LONDON (AP) — West Africa could see up to 10,000 new Ebola cases a week within two months, the World Health Organization said Tuesday, also confirming the death rate in the current outbreak has risen to 70 percent.......
........Health care workers have also been hit hard by the virus. International aid organization Doctors Without Borders said that 16 of its staff members have been infected with Ebola and nine of them have died.

Yes, of course. Just like they gauged ISIS capabilities an d danger

Fauci, Health and Human Services Secretary Syvia Burwell and Lisa Monaco, President Obama's top aide on Homeland Security, repeatedly noted the virus spreads only through direct contact with bodily fluids of patients with symptoms or with objects contaminated by those fluids.

An ominous posting by a facebook friend who just happens to work in the animal sciences research department at U.Mad, in regards to how Ebola is being handled:

To have the expectation that you can contain Ebola, a BSL4 (Biosafety Level aka the Hot Zone) virus in a BSL1, 2, 3 environment is absolutely unobtainable and ridiculous. You cannot.

i'm not worried about it at all and don't get why anyone else is. unless one lives in one of the african countries, or is a medical professional there, i don't see why anyone is concerned.

OldDog 10-14-2014 01:01 PM

no, why would i be? the chances for someone in this country getting ebola is incredibly slim-the chance of getting it from someone is 'miniscule'.
i'd be more worried about the flu, or a car accident-both of which hit far more people every day than ebola does. and i don't worry about them either.

'Unless you exchange or come in contact with blood or body fluids of an infected person, you are not at risk for Ebola. This infection results from close contact with a patient who is at a late stage in the disease.'

you cannot get it from casual contact. i haven't been to africa, neither has my spouse. we aren't in the health care field.

speaking of larger issues, just saw this headline on my home page:

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...squito-insect/

Faced with more than 600,000 deaths a year from malaria, scientists and their philanthropic backers have set their sights on the lowly mosquito. If we could annihilate mosquitoes, malaria would go, too, and with it dengue and other plagues.

OldDog 10-14-2014 03:25 PM

The folks in coach's thread would probably take issue with that.

so, be careful when butchering bats.

and for those who think this is some people killing conspiracy...again, malaria takes out a lot more each year.

some of the comments below this article i just posted are absurd.

The Texas healthcare system continues to live down to expectations.

Of course, with bigwig NBC correspondents figuring quarantines are just for the little people, maybe we're all screwed:

Now the nurses union is voicing its concerns and the real story of mistakes made at every turn by all and not to blame the victimized nurses who followed the directions of the hospital and the CDC. It's a huge mess with large numbers of staff, patients and contacts exposed . Let's hope that they get this under control.

Scroll down to the bar chart though to get a read on cause of death in Africa in the thousands, Ebola is the last and fewest . HIV / AIDS, & RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS by far top the list.

The Feds are responsible for international flights...but lets blame it on Texas and their lack of true sovereignty due to a reckless, anti-constitution federal government.

Can't secure our borders for the one of many surprises that will be revealed after mid-terms from the most transparent administration in the history of mankind.

Pants II 10-15-2014 09:47 AM

Just completely disregard Texas' inability to protect its borders and the mass immigration problems it faces.

Also completely disregard Houston has one of, if not THE BEST, cancer centers in the United States.

If Texas had true sovereignty they would be far better off than the idiots in our Federal government. People who defend it are the worst people in this country and deserve no rights.
