And considering there are exactly no good teams in the AL Central as of now the league difference isnt that big of a deal. I am not knocking Verlander as I think he is great. But the assertion that he is clearly having a better season than Halladay is just not accurate. |

Oh I believe it.
What do you think of LifeAtTen's chances in the Delaware thing? |
Just what I was looking for..thaaaanks!

Get that boring ass baseball crap out of my WWC thread.

Now they're arguing about the source of 99%...as well as the real value of 99%.
Raw data cooking is next. I'm leaving. |
I liked the hot female soccer player talk better if that helps.

the only 99% i used was that managers would agree the phillies have the best rotation in baseball. i still think that is true. it had nothing to do with verlander vs halladay. it wouldnt be smart to say 99% when you are comparing the two best pitchers in baseball. I would assume that number would be close to 50/50 if you are talking about having a pitcher for this year only. long term contract Verlander would be more inticing based on age only. |

irony of the word boring and a soccer thread. (though the US womens team is far from boring) |

It wouldn't be smart to say "99 percent" in the context of anything. I think 99 out of 100 is just as ridiculous to describe a Verlander versus Halladay argument as it is in describing a Phillies versus Braves argument. If one reads the thread, the only reason I used 99 out of 100 was to mimick your equally as asinine statistic that 99 out of 100 GM's, players, or whatever, would take the rotation of the Phillies over that of the Braves.

Quote:
hahhahahahah. so you read an article... meaning you havent watched baseball. zero credibility. 99 out of 100 scouts / managers would say the phillies have the best rotation. and the braves have a better bullpen... the best in the majors. not a better rotation. just give up, you have no leg to stand on. |
lol..... okaaaaay
|
Listen, the braves still have a few years to go until they get there. they are young and have no limits.
If you are going on overall pitching (including bullpen) you have a good arguement. Based on what we have been talking about (rotation) I'd personally take the Giants over the Braves. Braves would 3rd best IMO. |

Cliff Lee: 137.1 innings; 2.82 ERA; 137 strike outs; 29 walks Roy Halladay: 143.1 innings; 2.45 ERA; 138 SO; 17 BB Vance Worley: 49 innings; 2.20 ERA; 37 SO; 20 BB Roy Oswalt: 71.1 innings; 3.79 ERA; 42 SO; 18 BB Kendrick has started 7 times with a 3.58 ERA and Blanton was only around 6 games before he went on the DL and had a terrible 5.5 ERA. neither of the two have been regulars. we often skip the 5th starter if there is a day off Braves: Jair Jurrjens: 110.2 innings; 1.87 ERA; 65 SO; 25 BB Tommy Hanson: 103.1 innings; 2.44 ERA; 109 SO; 35 BB Brandon Beachy: 67.1 innings; 3.21 ERA; 78 So; 15 BB Tim Hudson: 113.1 innings; 3.57 ERA; 79 SO's; 30 BB Derek Lowe: 113 innings; 4.30 ERA; 81 SO's; 41 BB Mike Minor started 6 times with a 4.59 ERA and Teheran started twice with a 5.19 ERA Giants: Let Timmy Smoke: 123.1 innings; 3.06 ERA; 132 SO; 45 BB Matt Cain: 126.1 innings; 3.06 ERA; 105 SO; 33 BB Ryan Vogelsong: 91.1 innings; 2.17 ERA; 70 SO; 32 BB Jonathan Sanchez: 89.2 innings; 3.81 ERA; 92 SO; 59 BB Bumgarner: 104.2 innings; 3.87 ERA; 92 SO; 27 BB Zito started 6 times with a 3.18 ERA Totals of the main 5 pitchers in the rotations (throwing out Kendrick, Blanton, Minor, Teheren and Zito) Phillies: 532.3 innings; average 2.71 ERA; 475 SO; 108 BB Braves: 506.5 innings; average 3.07 ERA; 412 SO; 146 BB Giants: 533.7 innings; average 3.19 ERA; 491 SO; 196 BB so...... its an educated opinion that is supported by facts. except for now that I look at the whole picture, I might take the Braves over the Giants, close call though. Phillies ahead by a decent margin, especially when you factor in the SO/BB. this pretty much settles the arguement. as far as overall team ERA: Phillies have a 3.02, Braves 3.11; Giants i believe are 3.17 |

you can only argue that they are close. Phillies numbers are just better at this point in the season. |

You know, in a way you are so right.
You get to know the personality first..and then, if you're lucky........ That beats yanking your choke to a photo. But whatever spins your dial. |
And Verlander promptly comes out and has his worst start in months to begin the second half of the season. You're not helping me here, Justin.

What an unbelievable game. The US blew leads of 1-0 and then 2-1 in the 2nd OT.
Not to mention the fact that they couldn't finish several chances early in the first half. They let the Japanese hang around and in the shootout the Japanese goalie made several saves. You have to definitely tip your hat to her and the rest of the Japanese squad who looked overmatched much of the game, but hung around to win. Sidenote: I have to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of womens sports, but this soccer game was so refreshing/enjoyable with the lack of flopping, diving, bitching and moaning. The guys could take a lesson from the girls in this case how a championship game should be played. |
Let ANY team hang around that long and they will eventually bury you for it. Quite the resilient bunch the Japanese are.
|
The 2nd goal by Japan was was well deserved (a very good player stepping up.) The first goal by Japan is the one that shouldn't of happened. That was a big American mistake.

I think what really lost it for them was that each time they got up, they stopped pressing. Instead of attacking, it seemed like they just would clear the ball downfield, and/or keep kicking it out of bounds. Women's soccer is pretty cool IMO. I rather watch it than mens soccer. Come to think of it, I think only soccer and tennis are better to watch when women are playing. Out of the major sports that is. |
