LATE money thrown down on Soldat made him the 7/5 favorite.

He was crushed in the double and pick 3.

Travis Stone 02-26-2011 04:33 PM

I would have never thought Soldat would be the favorite when the gates opened.

VERY disappointed in THAS........ I understand that maybe he wasn't 100%, but he should have run better than he did. If I'm Mott, I don't even consider the Derby with him. I doubt he got anything out of this race, not enough for him to run 1 1/4 miles in May

Do you ever give it a rest?

ateamstupid 02-26-2011 04:36 PM

On another note, War Front is off to an unbelievable start as a sire.

I never even understood the love this horse got from fans and media in the first place.

Who knows though. Maybe something happened to him, or he didn't like the track.

I'll give you Kiaran McLaughlin's or Jimmy Bell's contact info if you want. You can explain their folly to them.

Steve, just have Casey give Betsy the phone book, now she needs Mott's #. Steve didn't Mott rell EVERYONE the FOY was not going to be the colts finest hour?

What didn't you like about his performance as a 2 year old?

Also, I remember Indomitable Drug wondering if Bernardini took after his dam in siring relatively precocious horses (she didn't do so well past her juvenile year).............and maybe he's right. So far, about 15th on the 2nd crop sires list and I can count the number of his horses on one hand that have shown real promise this year. Of course it's too early to say they haven't trained on, but it's something to keep an eye on.

declansharbor 02-26-2011 04:41 PM

I need that book that deciphers trainer-speak.

How is First Samurai off to a great start? He has 2 SW, one of which, Le Mi Geauz, hasn't run well since she won that stakes in NY. He's off to an ok start, but nothing special.

Does he have any other interesting horses beyond TF and Soldat?

You need Byk to get you Moss's # now to have them abort Zenyatta's foal?

Soldat was trading actively in betting exchanges at 7/5 early on in the betting ... a stream of fish came along and kept nibbling at the bait and slowly he was trading almost as high as 5/2. With about 2 minutes to go - someone looking to lock in 2.00-to-1 on him came in and offered 4K to layers at that price.

You could have got To Honor And Serve at 2/1 late in the betting. A Soldat backer or maybe a few of them - played it very well in the exchanges.

What exactly is your problem? I get that THAS wasn't going to be 100%, but he really ran a very poor race. He was factious in the gate for one.........he almost seemed a bit rank early. I had expected him to blow by Soldat, but then I really thought going in he was a very good horse. Do you really think that Mott can get this horse ready for 1 1/4 after his next start? He's got a lot of questions to answer now.
