Any Questions?

Invasor the good older horse beats the good 3yo.

Balletto 11-04-2006 04:35 PM

No question left... I finally feel justified!

Pedigree Ann 11-04-2006 04:35 PM

Hey, the 1 did win. Double 1s. Ha ha.

randallscott35 11-04-2006 04:35 PM

Older Horses

Different game for Bernie today. Not an all time great. period.

ArlJim78 11-04-2006 04:38 PM

Maybe people will now understand the difference between easy romps against weaker fields, and a battler that wins even with obstacles.

randallscott35 11-04-2006 04:39 PM

People comparing this horse to the Bid and Secr.....give me a break.

ArlJim78 11-04-2006 04:42 PM

We've all had to hear this from so many for all these months.
"Just imagine how much he'll win by win he is asked?"

How many times did we hear that?

MLC 11-04-2006 04:43 PM

Probably not.

Suffolk Shippers 11-04-2006 04:43 PM

I feel totally justified after this race. Bernardini had beat no one and when the chips were down he didnt have what it took. He needed the challenge before today and thats why (I feel) he didnt win.

Cajungator26 11-04-2006 04:44 PM

Bernie is a hell of a 3 year old... I'm more impressed with him than I was to begin with...

With that said, he showed very little heart today... JMO.

Amen Jim! It's been hard to find some support for that cause around here. I hope you had Invasor like myself.

MLC 11-04-2006 04:44 PM

Nice win by Invasor. Where did Lava Man end up?

ArlJim78 11-04-2006 04:46 PM

We wanted to know what would happen when someone looked him in the eye.
Not to worry, no one can look him in the eye they said.

Really?

I'm happy for Kiaran, what a great trainer this guy is!!

Pedigree Ann 11-04-2006 04:48 PM

Well, I have to admit it - the Lava Dude doesn't ship well. Those South American horses are all tough as nails; many of their G1s down there have purses that are under $100K in our money, so one can buy a champion for less than one pays for a high-end yearling.

It's a great story for Kiaran. Brought to his knees a few years ago by MS, and now on top of the world. What a great story.

Five Star Derek 11-04-2006 05:11 PM

Great Horse comparisons can be put to rest

No excuses. Bernardini ran an excellent race but he simply wasn't the best. The comparisons to other great horses in the past should stop now. He's obviously an incredible horse but simply not an all time great. In my mind, he would have had to do more than just win today to be put in the class of previous great horses. The racing god's have rendered a decision; Bernardini is another in a long list of overhyped horses.

randallscott35 11-04-2006 05:12 PM

Thank God. Invasor would've beaten him in the Gold Cup too.

King Glorious 11-04-2006 05:14 PM

Bernardini is 1 for 2 against older males on dirt. Secretariat was 1 for 3 against older males on dirt.

Agree, ArlJim. Things are different in big fields with lots of competition the whole way around.

If they go ahead and retire him now, at least they can't say "there's nothing else to prove". Nothing against Bernardini. He ran a super race, and finishing 2nd in the BC Classic can hardly be called a disgrace. But to say he's the best thing we've seen in decades was over the top for the amount he'd raced.

And Secretariat was overrated as well. But an alltime great nonetheless while Bernie is a terrific horse. Nothing more. Not even sniffing Mineshaft by the way.

Gauchos0522 11-04-2006 05:16 PM

As Kenny Mayne says Invasor...He's the best! Great race and I commend Bernie but he was not the same horse when he was challegned instead of just walking over opponets. Invasor was all heart and a hell of a lot of talent.

Oh you bet I did! He bailed out my day. It should have been a real big day for me becasue I also had Red Rocks and Street Sense but I managed to not do much until the finale.

I'm not going to be one of those guys that bumps up his old posts but I have made several attempts over the past couple of months to explain why I thought Invasor could very well beat Dini. Beside the fact that he is flat out very fast, it was also the way in which he won his races. He had to overcome many obstacles, going wide, lots of dirt in the face, pace pressure early and late, etc. But not many would listen.

I drew a line through the Dubai race because of the Valium that they found in his system. If you draw a line through that race what is apparent is that this is a tremendous horse and is undefeated in the Western Hemisphere.

People would just say things like, "Well he can't be as good because he only beat Sun King by a nose"

Thats right! Berardini is a tremendous horse and nothing against him at all.
Finishing second is no disgrace. It's just the hype had gotten so out of hand.

Five Star Derek 11-04-2006 05:33 PM

I really liked him today but was too stupid to just bet money on his nose. I was still trying to sniff out a big score. I bet like a moron!

As a person who bets longshots- I tried to beat Bernardini. I paired Bernie up in exacta boxes with a couple of bombs (one being Premium Tap), but yeah... I hope they bring him back to race at 4.

He hasn't won a "big huge race" that will really jack up the stud fee. Unless the oil sheiks are content, they should let him race at least up to the Dubai World Cup...

But a very impressive win by Invasor. I give him all the credit. Good thing Jara didn't have to face a choice between riding Jazil and Invasoir in this race lol.
