Most Impressive on the Day?

My vote to Street Sense a great pick by Steve.

Against the clock he might have won the Distaff today with another sixteenth. Yes, a golden rail trip but what a nice race he ran. Good for Nafzger.

King Glorious 11-04-2006 05:44 PM

Street Sense and Ouija Board.

Cannon Shell 11-04-2006 05:45 PM

O board gets my vote. Street Sense was very good but the old mare was awesome. I think that she'd beat this group of colts in the Turf if they had tried. On to Japan?

Downthestretch55 11-04-2006 05:48 PM

Best to me was O Board.
Best of the second bests...Octave.

Sightseek 11-04-2006 05:51 PM

Invasor for me.

randallscott35 11-04-2006 05:52 PM

2:02 and change. Track didn't slow up that much on the day. Not for me.

Didn't someone on this board say he'd shade Sec's record? Ha ha.

Gauchos0522 11-04-2006 05:54 PM

Ouija Board was spectacular and proved she is one of he best race mares in the last bundle of years. What a classy girl as she just destroys that solid field. Film Maker I absolutley love also as she is ultra consistent and fires her best shots in the big races time after time.

I agree. I am extremely disappointed in that time. I don't know how much the track may have slowed down, if at all, but that was a very slow time. I'm guessing they will split the first two races off from the rest or they may keep all the earlier dirt races together and split off the Distaff and Classic. Without splitting the card, when u see that 1:34.77 for the second race and the 2:02.18 for the Classic, it's not good. Very much like last year. I think it's pretty clear the track slowed down after the first two races. But it seemed to me, in my amateur opinion, that the track stayed pretty much the same throughout the rest of the day. The 4f/6f splits of the other route races:

JF-47.46....1:12.34
Juv-46.67......1:11.74
Dist-46.75...1:11.59
Classic-46.60......1:11.11

Also, I'm not too impressed with Invasor's closing of 25.18 It just seemed to me like the race was slow and none of them were really running at the end.

randallscott35 11-04-2006 06:09 PM

Under a 115 Beyer(I would think--by a few) which the average for the Classic is near a 118. Subpar.

kgar311 11-04-2006 06:12 PM

Did anybody forget miesques approval?

SCUDSBROTHER 11-04-2006 06:16 PM

Was that Giacomo's fastest race? As he goes to BREEDING FARM,he puts in his career best? LOL

I think he could have been a very nice horse if they'd based him outside of California.

ateamstupid 11-04-2006 06:47 PM

You're nuts if you don't say Street Sense, golden rail or no golden rail.

BellamyRd. 11-04-2006 07:10 PM

INVASOR

yes, he was with a Sheik
but... you gotta love an Uraganian bred by Candy Stripes
winning the BCC in KY
over an overhyped AP Indy!
LMAO!!!!!!!!

Thunder Gulch 11-04-2006 08:15 PM

Dreaming of Anna, Street Sense, and Invasor were all top notch, but the best of the day was Ouija Board who ran her race and took command when asked to prove her absolute class today. She's the best turf mare in the word period.

letswastemoney 11-04-2006 08:58 PM

The rail bias on the main track helped. Brother Derek would not have lasted as long as he did without the rail trip. Invasor's time looked slow because he came from the outside

joey....that turn of foot was f*cking awesome....she went from 4-5 behind to 4-5 ahead in the blink of an eye. Thors Echo screwed me in the Sprint....was alive to 5 horses in the sprint after singling Anna and Ouija...but got no love in the sprint.....oh well.

Coach Pants 11-04-2006 09:03 PM

Street Sense made the day for me. It would've been a sorry day without that score.

ninetoone 11-04-2006 09:10 PM

I'll cast a vote for Street Sense...it was also Denman's worst call of the day...SS got an afterthought call at the top of the stretch, and then not another until practically under the wire....Denman was concentrating on the faves...

The Bid 11-04-2006 09:14 PM

Ouija Board for me. She was magnificent.

Street Sense ran well, but I dont know how good that field was. I doubt very seriously there is a legit Derby horse coming out of that pack

sumitas 11-04-2006 09:22 PM

SS. he has got to be a legit derby horse.

The Bid 11-04-2006 09:28 PM

None of those horses have to be. Obviously if there is one in that group its him.

MarkyD 11-04-2006 10:02 PM

He came 3rd, but with all the bashing about him scratching and not wanting to go. BOS ran pretty good I thought.

The Bid 11-04-2006 10:16 PM

Ran huge Mark

pgardn 11-04-2006 10:29 PM

Ouija Board did not dissappoint. We had a magnificient female who has been thru some of the toughest turf races in the world come back again and prove how good she is at an advanced age. Did not have a dime on her, but this is a wonderful animal and unlike so many other animals we have had a chance to witness her ability. I love this horse. A warrior. Tough as they come.

avance2000 11-04-2006 10:58 PM

bernardini.....i didn't think he would be nearly that close to invasor.

Danzig 11-05-2006 12:23 AM

ouija board--who else could it be?? how often will we get to see a horse come back for the THIRD time, two wins and a second....she was truly special.
runner up goes to miesques approval.
next would be invasor...

tanner12oz 11-05-2006 12:35 AM

street sense had the best single performance......if you wanna take into account other stuff then its ouija board hands down.....what a horse she is.

jpops757 11-05-2006 07:16 AM

We talk about Street Sense and the golden rail. The think that made it was the great job Calvin did . If you look back he was 1/2 jump from getting cut off and squeezed back with no chance of winning. he went from 5th or 6th at the best to leading in about 3 strides with a great job by Calvin. Lotta horse but maybe one of the best rides you will see. My other contender Doug Oniel, All of his horses ran well with Lava Man being the exception but overall his horses over performed.

Danzig 11-05-2006 07:17 AM

invasor wasn't on the biased part of the track, was he? his win also very impressive.

The Bid 11-05-2006 07:18 AM

Badge ran huge, needed just one more and he would have won. Indeed a great job by Bobby.

Still to me OB's got to be the best

Thunder Gulch 11-05-2006 07:28 AM

Thinking about it, the Churchill RAIL was the most impressive of the day. I hate it when the track superintendants take it upon themselves to play a role in $20M worth of purse money.

This comment just make Invasor's race much more impressive.

LOL! Good one, avance.

Oddly enough, I would give seriously thought to another 2nd place finish as the most impressive horse of the day--Asi Siempre. She was trying so hard for so long to get through the wall in front of her. I thought Leparoux was going to jump her onto the back of one of those mares. (Instead he finally slammed her into Balleto to get her outside.) She redined "full of run".

But I still have to join the Ouija Board camp. That was thrilling. And I give Lord Derby so much credit for bringing her back from the injury to run her again.

Miesques Approval was top win as the way that horse came home was spectacular and made all the rest look they were in another league a notch below. MA just crushed them and even if you like the horse, you wouldn't have expected that.
