Maiden Race - M/L 5/2 ....the 4 horse.....

If you recall his sibling was a HIGHLY overlooked at the Spa the last week of the meet and won at big big odds :$: :$: .

Just a follow up to those who didn't watch or bet him.....

6 1/2 FURLONGS MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT. FOR MAIDENS, TWO YEARS OLD. Weight, 120 lbs.

Hey Smarty went off at 4/5....ridden by Kirk LeBlanc

...Slow start from the gate

...caught up to the field...went 4 wide at the turn... had nice late kick...

...and finished 2nd in a field of 10...The win went to Opposition Leader 5/1 ridden by Lonnie Meche.

I think that if the horse had a good start it would have won the race.

On the plus side, Hey Smarty:

-- came out at the break, slamming the 5, who then pushed him significantly into the 3 (and slightly, the 2)

--- was widest on the turn and didn't change leads in the lane

On the negative side:

--- the winner was LEFTY THE ENTIRE RACE. That's right, even though the
winner had an inside trip and sat chilly on the turn while HS bid with the
1, he was on LEFT lead the whole race.

--- HS had terrible action in the lane

--- maiden 2 year old fillies ran FASTER (faster pace too) in the 8th race

Gotta wonder why this horse is 4:5.

Maybe 'cause of Dad?? aka Smarty Jones?
