Washington Times report:
LEXINGTON, KY. (AP) - John Velazquez was hospitalized Friday after a spill at Keeneland that also injured fellow jockey Jamie Theriot.
Velazquez was sent to the University of Kentucky trauma unit for evaluation, track medical director Barry Schumer said. He said Velazquez was alert and moving his arms and legs.
Velazquez lay motionless on the track for several minutes after being thrown by Tap Dancing. He was put in a neck brace and taken away in an ambulance.
Theriot was also thrown, by Whacka Whacka, but was able to walk to an ambulance. He was evaluated at the track's first aid unit and cleared to ride, Schumer said.
Track spokesman Jim Williams said the accident occurred when Tap Dancing clipped hooves with another horse in Keeneland's seventh race, The Bernardini. Whacka Whacka then collided with the pile.
Neither horse appeared seriously injured.
Velazquez broke his shoulder and cracked ribs in an April 2006 race at Keeneland. :)
