Ausable Chasm (:35.0) sharp; Seeks 'extra' race

AUSABLE CHASM breezed an efficient and smooth three-eighths Saturday on the Saratoga main track in :36.0 under Victor Santiago. On an exquisite Spa morning, the Hook and Ladder filly recorded splits of :12.0, :12.0 and :12.0 from the 3f marker to the wire before galloping out the half in an additional :12.3 (:48.3). The drill marked the juvenile miss' first timed effort since her debut July 25, and comes in anticipation of a possible second start the last week of the upstate session.

AUSABLE CHASM looks to make a 2nd start Sunday, August 29 (5.5f) or September 5 (6f)...

I vote for August 29, the day after Travers Stakes, etc.

I know... she'll let us know when she is ready.

Sounds great - either day I will be there. Already have some nice seats for the Ensign. Nice to see 2 special fillies on the same day, AC and RA

I will be there on the 29th for sure. It would be amazing to have a paddock pass to see our horse and the current horse of the year.

No thanks... Your trip to South America has prevented you from witnessing his shockingly horrific summer.

Ausable Chasm (:35.0) sharp; Seeks 'extra' race

AUSABLE CHASM turned in a visually impressive work on the Spa main Saturday morning getting 3f in :35.0 under Victor Santiago, her second recorded drill since finishing 6th in her July 25 debut. The Dee Tee color-bearer broke off at the three-eigths pole having moved comfortably down the backstretch and into the turn, cutting the corner smoothly, changing leads on her own, motoring through the lane with very little urging, and galloping out past the wire for a half in :47.1.

Santiago, who will most likely get the call in Ausable Chasm's second start, told Gary Sciacca the Hook and Ladder miss was noticeably better and more relaxed than in her drill last week, doing everything on her own. The spin will likely get the 3f main track bullet. Gary has inquired with the Racing Office of the possibility of an extra 5.5f 2yo NYB filly race being written for the end of the coming week, and if PJ Campo uses one, AUSABLE CHASM would enter. More after the full list of works is posted at DRF.

In other news, LLOYDOBLER is on his way back to Saratoga from the Ft. Edward farm where he has been turned out, and will resume training...

I'm confused. :zz: Isn't there a 5.5f 2yo NYB filly race in the Condition Book for Sunday, August 29? Why would an extra race have to be written?

P.S. When will Lloydobler be back at Saratoga?

thanks for the updates Steve, wouldn't believe how many alleged non-racing enthusiasts at my work ask about the "Lloyd," they're enthralled with his handsomeness :zz:

Lloydobler is back at the track now. He was en route when I said he was on his way.

Gary is hoping they write, fill and use the extra before the Sunday race given that they haven't been getting more than about 8 for these. He figures they might not use that race next Sunday.

Swale84 08-21-2010 06:18 PM

The NYRA website had the work posted as 4 furlongs in 47.88. This was the second fastest of the 54 horses that worked.

The three furlong work in :35 would have been a bullet as the fastest recorded work at that distance was a gate work in 36.24

Thanks for the explanation.

If they write an extra race, I hope it's Friday, when I can be there. :D

Ausable Chasm exited her work in good order... All OK. Ate up last night and this morning.

cabvmd 08-23-2010 08:27 AM

I know she was scheduled for Sunday but if they can get the Extra in for Friday It will be great. Dad and I will be there on Friday, but we can not stay for Sunday. I have to fly to San Fran early on Monday for work @#$*@ :mad:so we have to get back home. Arggh! I would love to see her race on Friday!

Thanks for the update. Glad to see Lloyd back. With the training track there at Saratoga he should leg up quick and hope to see him race at Belmont!!
