If you don't know what physical issues he has, there is no way to know if he's worth $35k. He may be fairly sound. I have no idea. But if he has serious issue, he may be worthless tomorrow. There are a million horses running in claiming races that look like great bargains on paper. You see horses that were winning for $50,000 just a few months ago and now they're running for $25,000. There are tons of horses who at their best are worth 5x more than what they're running for.
A horse's ability is less than half the battle when it comes to claiming. The key to being successful at claiming horses is finding horses that are relatively sound. None of these claiming horses are totally sound. You can't expect to find one that is totally sound. The key is to find one whose physical issues can be dealt with. You don't want to claim a horse that is bowed. You might make a lot of money with a horse that is bowed but you are basically playing russian roulette.
