Metallic Spheres

The Orb featuring David Gilmour.

I am a fan of David Gilmour / Pink Floyd and think some of The Orb's stuff is interesting.

I have other "electronica" (Klaus Schulze, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis...)

I really like David Gilmour's solo stuff. I got the 5 disc version of Live at Gdansk so I could get the 5.1 surround sound version of "On an Island". :tro:

I didn't have any expectations of Metallic Spheres. I haven't sat down and really really listened to it. I have it playing in the headphones while I'm at work and when I am at home surfing the net. It's peripheral. Even so...

I just can't get into it. I tried but the 2nd track (Spheres side) bothers me so much that I have to stop playing it. :wf

This CD may appeal to The Orb fans much more than the David Gilmour Pink Floyd fans.

I'm a huge Floyd / Gilmour fan as well.

I got up to 1:30 and that was all I could stand.

d a m n completest collector

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SICP-20268

"Collaboration album release from The Orb and David Gilmour consisting of "Metallic Side" and "Spheres Side." Includes a bonus disc featuring an alternative mix of the album in the new "3D60" process, which creates a 360-degree sound experience when heard on headphones, using stereo tracks without the need for any special audio equipment. Japan edition features the high-fidelity Blu-spec CD format"

being a completest I had to buy the special 2 disc version of Metallic Spheres. - The idea of 3d60 sound was intriguing.

if I had known any better, I would have bought up all the quad releases of the 70s. Sure some of them were terrible but not all ~ the novelty of it all. With all the technology we have now you would think that holophonic sound or "Q sound" would be the norm instead of the exception but...

I was disappointed even more in the 3D60 release because it cost more. I didn't hear anything in 3D that could make up for the terrible content on this album (Special edition) or otherwise.

Irradiated poop is still poop

I've decided the only way I can handle more then like one minute of it is to watch David.

Even then after a couple of minutes I've had enough. :wf

nice footage but having that pumped directly into your head as they make it swirl around... :zz:

I can listen to Fripp and Eno's No Pussyfooting but Metallic Sphere makes me anxious and nauseous

I remember Eno scored a movie a year or 2 ago but where is Rober Fripp these days?

Did you ever hear of the band UK? They were sometime in between King Crimson and God was Asia the name? I think that was it.

I heard something by them once that was phenomenal... I'll have to google and try to find it. Have no idea if they were big or what back then...

I have 1 album by UK. I seldom play it though. I don't remember what happened to UK I can't go through my collection now, it's all boxed up ready for a move.

I think Asia was big at being a slick pop band

I found some of their stuff last night...

Was surprised as I assumed Bill Bruford was their sole drummer but then there were a few clips with Terry Bozzio (I didn't realize what a baby he was at the time).

Interesting to watch those two... Bruford with his fluid style, almost looked like he wasn't moving in parts and Bozzio looking more like Moonie with the crazed, all over the place thing going on.

I never did find the song I was looking for but ended up watching some very old Crimson stuff I had never seen (God John Wetton just had such a fantastic voice. How underrated was he?) so it's all good.

He was with Wishbone Ash for their "Number the Brave" album

Did anyone else cringe the first time they heard this (and I like him!)?

If people look at that and don't know what it is I wonder what they think, Herkie.

Mr. Wingnut Sir I had never once heard that band in my life!

My older brother used to scare me with that album cover. I showed it to my kids today and they just laughed.
