Holy sh!t ... there are 4 HARDCORE trip horses in the Southwest.

The composition of the field in this race makes me weap that there's no TVG Fantasy contest this year.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-19-2011 08:56 PM

The trip horses:

Last out: Archarcharch, Bonaroo, Elite Alex

Two back: Ghost is Clear

Why isn't Grant Jack included with your two from the Smarty Jones? He led them along on their merry chase in the fog.

I don't like JP's Gusto and will probably play both Elite Alex and Ghost Is Clear.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-21-2011 02:04 PM

Grant Jack had position - the other two were both hung out to dry on the first turn in a race that produced an insane fast early-slow late race shape.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-21-2011 05:31 PM

Archarcharch wins this baby and pays $31 to win - will need to see the replay - but I was watching him the whole way and he was wide on both turns and a little rank.

The two favorites ran 2nd and 3rd.

NTamm1215 02-21-2011 05:49 PM

I can't tell whose performance was better in that race, that of Calvin Borel or Terry Wallace.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-21-2011 05:50 PM

I saw Borel had Elite Alex stacked up about 7 wide on the far turn - at least he got him out of the gate this time though. All of the money came in on that horse.

blackthroatedwind 02-21-2011 05:52 PM

You're focusing on the wides....yet it was the horse on the rail that was given no chance.

The Indomitable DrugS 02-21-2011 05:56 PM

I would need to watch it again - I was pretty much only focusing on 3 different horses... and didn't get much of a feel from the track announcer.

Once I look over the pars and make my pace number is when I like to watch a race seriously because that way I feel like I have an idea where the strong and weak points of the race are.

blackthroatedwind 02-21-2011 05:57 PM

That was quite a race call.

I realize calling races is a difficult job, nut that was horrendous.

Travis Stone 02-21-2011 07:08 PM

I watched it a few times... I just think Ramon got stuck in a bad spot. He was in perfect position until the race fell into his lap and everyone swarmed. I generally prefer he waits in a spot like that, than go five wide onto the far turn. Today was a prep, not the real deal yet. Elite Alex can move forward off his wide trip too.

Exactly, Caleb's Posse had a very tough trip.

Von Hemel has a couple of runners this spring.... he had the roughest trip of all and I missed it the first few times through.

It gets a lot more difficult when you can't see and can't remember anything.

Did you hear the call of the race prior to the Southwest? After the Asmussen horse swept to the lead, it took Wallace several seconds to figure out who it was.
