AQU Tom Fool H (G3): Calibrachoa 107 (T. Pletcher/R. Dominguez)
This horse has responded very well to the Pletcher since the claim.

He was always pretty fast Freddy. He ran a 101 in a claiming race the race he was claimed off of.

In fact, Asmussen dropped him from 50K to 40K off a triple digit Beyer ... he basically had a big fat 'for sale' sign on him.

Need to include the best effort of the day into conversation:

Apriority 113

Apriority ran a 113 in an N3X alw race at Gulfstream yesterday.

He is now 5-4-1-0 lifetime on dirt.

That race had the look of one certain to be among the strongest N3X's all year on paper - and you got a well spread field (Gulfstream does that) and an almost track record setting time.

Kasept beat me to it. Nice call on the debuter yesterday.

You know what struck me as odd about the race going in, was why Fawkes was 'settling' for that spot? Yes it was a $60k+ pot, but as sharp as Apriority was in the SunMill race, it gnawed at me a bit why he wasn't taking 'the next logical' step. He'd have blown apart the Tom Fool. Waiting for call back from Fawkes about intentions for the Carter. Imagine he has to go...

He said in a news story recently that he was thinking of pointing Big Drama to the Carter. Apriority was awfully impressive yesterday, that's for sure.

As far as Calibrachoa, realistically, he capitalized on one of the best pace setups a horse could ever get on the inner track. He's certainly a nice horse but I can't see him standing up to tougher graded stakes races without similar circumstances.

It's not as if he didn't run exceptionally well at Santa Anita Freddy... Plus there were the 2 strong performances at Calder.

It's good for your long-term mental health, trust me.

It may not have gnawed.. May have just pecked.

You have to wonder how many horses were wasted running on rubber in California.

Betsy 03-06-2011 10:10 AM

Thanks, Steve! Any idea what BSF Break up the Game got yesterday?

I find that when things gnaw at me, the best thing to do is eat pie. Lots of it.

Any idea what Arienza got breaking her maiden? It was in 1:10.42 for 6f at Oaklawn. I was googling to find out when she was foaled (May 17) and I believe they said she had a recent 5f bullet. As a fan of her mother, needless to say I have Azeri's babies in my DRF stable. I guess it's a pipe dream to have Take Control back any time soon.

I bet the Rose horse who was in a brutal speed duel in this race. They ran very fast early and he closed well, I will def. look to beat him next time off the setup he got on Saturday. The rabit did its job in this case.
