Got off the phone w/ John Fort a little while ago. He said that there was a chance that Flashpoint could win the Florida Derby and not go to Kentucky. I think it'd be extremely hard to make that decision, but I would applaud it if for nothing else it's refreshing realisticness. He thinks he could get an advantageous pace scenario at GP because everyone might be afraid to run with him, but doesn't think the same could ever happen in the KY Derby.

Next time ask him if Mythical Power will be defending his title in the Texas Mile.

I'll believe it when I see it. The idea that if he wins he won't run in the Derby is suspect at best. Derby fever is a real thing.

Preakness instead?????????

Forget about afraid - they aren't fast enough to run with Flashpoint early on.

Unless he's overly rated - or the track is very speed biased - whoever is within two or three lengths of Flashpoint early isn't going to have anything left in the stretch for Dialed In.

I'm not sure about that as I'm not positive he can rate.

Depending on how the blinkers effect him. He rated nicely in the Gotham, but the blinkers might make him more aggressive.

He's been training to take dirt in the face and McLaughlin seems to feel that the horse can rate very well.........

My comment was less about his ability to rate than the idea that he would get a softer pace.

And here I was, thinking we would be getting 7/2 on Dialed In.. Not a good betting race for the vertical players imo

Flashpoint will have to gun it from the 8 path (not that he wouldn't anyway, but is post will make him work harder.
