DRF CLOSER LOOK -- RACE 7
By Brian Mulligan

Ida's Pride: Runner was 30-1 on the morning line here Saturday in a similar spot as an also; 5 for 33 dam was 2nd in best juvenile moment, won 4 times on grass, banked nearly $190K; lone half bro was third in best result; passing.

Papa Tom: Runner was 30-1 on the morning line here Saturday in same race as rail as an also; 4 for 15 dam didn't race at 2 or on grass; one of 2 siblings won; that runner, Katskill Bay, took 5 of 29, lost twice at 2, thrice on grass, banked over $160K; needs a 180-degree turn around.

Limani: Harlan's Holiday about 13% with first-time turf runners in a 166-runner sample; sire won 4 times at 2, won multiple Grade 1s, banked $3.6 million, never turfed; stakes placed 4 for 17 dam didn't race at 2, or on grass but banked over $200K; all 3 siblings each won once; one cashed at 2, all tried grass to no avail; could need sellers to show top talent.

American Buffalo: Runner was 5-2 second choice on the morning line here Saturday in same race as rail as an also; stakes placed 2 for 10 dam lost twice at 2, won on grass once, banked about $80K; both siblings won; both cashed on turf, one won at 2; top earner Midnight Mass was 2 for 13, earned $66K, both wins came on turf; can't fault those that give him another shot at glory.

My Pal of Pals: Colt took a little money on the stretch out, but just never kicked; dam out of the money in only try; all 3 sibs won; all ran at 2 to no avail; top earner Loyal Shadow won 5 of 33, all on grass, banked nearly $165K; at least he got a feel of the grass; still must hustle.

Hope Still Springs: Maybe he just wanted grass all along; the 10/14 show horse won here 11/16 at this level with a 63 Beyer; double Grade 3 winning dam didn't race at 2 or on grass but banked nearly $300K; 6 of 8 sibs won; none won at 2 but top kin Sabellina took 7 of 38, was grass only, banked over $500K; the one to deny.

Alarmed Ndangerous: Youngster finished okay, has every right to improve here; 3 for 7 dam didn't race at 2, lost only turf out, banked $55K; one of 3 sibs won; that runner cashed short once on dirt as older horse; look for him in the final furlong if at all.

Jet Set Cat: Runner was 20-1 on the morning line here Friday in a $35K maiden claimer at a mile on grass as an also; One Nice Cat 1 for 16 with first-time turf runners; sire took a stakes, won 4 of 28, banked almost $165K, didn't run at 2, won once on grass; 2 for 20 dam didn't race at 2, lost thrice on grass; one of 2 sibs won; that runner, Jet to Classics, took 2 of 18, won at 2, both wins came on grass, banked nearly $50K; looking elsewhere for a top key horse.

Post Pattern: Runner was 5-1 on the morning line here Saturday in same race as rail as an also; 3 for 23 dam was 2nd twice in best juvenile results, never turfed, earned about 30 grand; one sibling lost 34 times; the other, El Tiburon, took 2 of 18, didn't run at 2 or on grass; not impossible chore.

keithting 12-04-2011 10:37 AM

Go get'em Pally !! Best of luck and safe journeys to all.....

hud8118 12-04-2011 10:54 AM

interesting....

Andy Serling picks Pal on top...good jock, chance to wire in field devoid of speed...

pgiaco 12-04-2011 01:37 PM

Nakatani off his mounts...Luzzi to ride (ugh)

pweizer 12-04-2011 02:22 PM

Good ride by Luzzi. Couldn't have had it any easier up front. It appears that Steve was right to caution us about distance limitations.

Could not get easier fractions on the lead, obviously wants no part of 1 1/16.

A good race for Pal in terms of finding out his strengths/weaknesses - hope he comes back to the barn okay, was certainly fun to watch - as always, thanks to Team Dee Tee, we'll get there yet!

Kasept 12-04-2011 03:24 PM

Pal came back 100% great. Luzzi loved him saying he felt super under him and gave what he had but just isn't a mile and sixteenth horse. We won't get turf sprinting back until Belmont next spring, but can certainly cut Pal back for shots on the inner. More later or in the morning..

Apparently got banged up in the nightcap Saturday in Trinidad and wasn't up to riding Sunday.
