Home field advantage

Generally...How much is home court supposed to be worth in Basketball? How much is home ice supposed to be worth in hockey?

I realize obviously it's going to be worth more in some places than others.

I heard the other day something like the Redwings have WON 23 straight home games. The Blues had gone like 18 straight at home without a loss. I see the Spurs lose by like 40 on the road the other day.

I've bet one basketball game in like two years and I've never bet hockey before, so I wouldn't have the slightest clue.

I've heard studies show that mens testostrone levels increase when they're at home...and increase even higher when they're at home against a rival. So, if that's true, it's almost like a team gets a drug hop from being home.

Basketball, 3 to 4 on average. Hockey is usually money line betting. Tough to gauge in points what home ice is worth, maybe half a puck.

I've never heard anything about increased testostrone levels but I know there are several other valid factors. Familiarity with the environs is one. The comfort you feel able to drive your own car to the gym after sleeping in your own bed and being in a regular setting makes a difference. I do think there is an added bit of adrenalin when the home crowd gets going behind you and I think it also influences the refs a little when 18,000 people are screaming in favor of some calls and against others.

Then you have guys like Bird, Jordan, and Kobe that relish going on the road and shutting everyone up.

well, if you look at the caps this year, home ice is the only thing keeping them in reach of the playoffs.
in some venues, the boards play a bit differently. the homers would have an advantage because they're used to the idiosyncracies of their ice. i think detroit is one of the arenas like that. then again, the wings are just good anyway.

In Hockey, home teams also get the last shift change and their bench is in a favorable spot for changes in 2 of the 3 periods.

You wonder if "on the road" pu-tang helps or hurts.....
