Was Shackleford a possibility at some point?

Quote:

Mike Lauffer and Bill Cubbedge’s homebred Shackleford, winner of the Met Mile (GI) by a nose over Caleb’s Posse, is weighted next at 121 pounds. The Met Mile was the second graded stakes victory of 2012 for Shackleford, who also won the Churchill Downs Presented by Navistar (GII) on the Kentucky Derby Day undercard. His biggest victory as a 3-year-old came in the Preakness (GI), where he was able to hold off a late charge by Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (GI) winner Animal Kingdom to win for trainer Dale Romans.

nice field.

Coach Pants 06-11-2012 08:27 AM

Heh. Maybe they'll break 1:50. I'm sure it will be a magical day at Roman Downs. I'm bringing the neighborhood. I'm sure they'll love getting their wallet out 5 f.ucking times before they get to their seats.

Roman Downs: Stay away, peasants. We ain't give a f.uck about horse racing.

Gate Dancer 06-11-2012 08:39 AM

Looking forward to the entire card with the other stakes races as well. Should be a fun Saturday night!!

Projected odds if that's the field?

pucknut 06-11-2012 01:36 PM

cant wait to see if wise dan passes this test
this field screams that the announcement of the death of horse racing by the paper tiger negative journalists was premature

Several of the important older horse races have been fairly competitive this year, including the Donn, Oaklawn Handicap, Alysheba, Pimlico Special, Met Mile, and possibly this race.

However, with the exception of the Met Mile, there has been little by way of true Grade 1 talent.

Unfortunately, missing from action is Mucho Macho Man, who hasn't worked since his disappointing effort at Churchill. He looked to have a big year and could have added to some of these races. At least Flat Out, now in Bill Mott's barn, appears to be closing in on a start.

Meanwhile, I hope something from back East takes a shot at the Hollywood Gold Cup. I'd rather not see Game On Dude and Richard's Kid run 1-2 in a merry-go-round 5-horse field. Morning Line is probably toast and was suspect at 10f anyways. Maybe Hymn Book will forego the Suburban to take a shot. Ron The Greek, too, since he's already won in CA and might be kept apart from new stablemate Flat Out.

rollo i hope you are wrong and ron stays for this that will make this very intriguing and might not some of these go to toga with that new purse structure the other tracks may want to go dark

Yea I checked it all out. Royal Delta back is great, but it looks like she's facing a max of 4 horses. I'm excited to see Matz 3yr old turf filly step up. I like her.

Why are both of the Dan brothers entered?

Seems a little disconcerting in regard to WD.

Thought the same thing. Lopresti said he was entering Successful only if there was an issue with Wise..

Just talked to Lopresti. After what happened with Belmont, he figured there's no harm entering Successful Dan and SCR'ing. Says Wise Dan 100% but if he should spike a fever or cough or whatever, at least Mr. Fink would be represented in the race with Successful Dan. As long as Wise Dan runs as expected, Successful Dan will go to Cornhusker or Suburban.
