I Just Can't Do It Justice With Words
This is a small portion of an article that I wrote which will be published tomorrow about my experience. If anyone would like to read the entire piece, pm me and I will send you the link tomorrow morning before I leave for The Jug.
"A modest crowd was in attendance, nothing like the close to 50,000 people who will pack the Delaware County Fairgrounds to be a part of this tradition. The first Jug was held in 1946, and it has done nothing but grow every year since. You want a seat for the races today, good luck as they are a dime a dozen as folks order their seats a year in advance. Today I spoke with fans from Tennessee, Canada, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and even California. Folks take their vacation just to come to this quaint town of Delaware. I sat today next to a man who has been to every Jug since 1981. He said he wasn't even an avid Harness fan until he stepped foot onto these hallowed grounds and instantly he was hooked for life. You will meet and see people of all walks of life; young, old, rich, poor and everything in between. Just by paying admission you are able to walk thru the stall areas and get up close and personal to the stars of the show. As you make your way thru the grounds, all of a sudden a voice bellows down the halls and thru the stands, that voice belongs to no other then Roger Huston, celebrating his 40th year announcing at Delaware. It will send chills down your spine. Everything about this experience will send chills down your spine and create memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. " |
Not sure I understand:
If seats are a dime a dozen, wouldn't they be easy to get? Or am I reading it incorrectly? Anyway, if it's your thing, go for it, but I would rather cut my grass with scissors than watch harness racing... |

You wouldn't understand unless you go to central Ohio to witness it... It isn't just 'watching harness racing'.. It is the Little Brown Jug (Thursday), and today, the Jugette.. It is a unique and delightful Americana slice unlike almost anything you can imagine. |

Have fun, I'll take your and Kasept's word on the Little Brown Jug and that it's not just another harness race... |

NOT to the Jug.. But know the scene and area well from having lived in Cincy '82-'84... We had Sam McKee from Meadowlands on the Show tonight... He was great. Called a race at the Fair at age 14... Either he or Huston were going to join us on the air depending on how close to the segment the races ended... It was McKee and he was great... |
LIved in Worthington,OH, for a while so was very aware of what went on just up the road. Had a dog show on the fair grounds with my smooth fox terrier (who won nothing) about a week before the Jug one year. Picture this - a small county fair grounds, with a typical county fair track, surrounded by steel frame grandstands that seemed to reach the sky, like they used to have in the end of the Horseshoe at Ohio State.
