HRTV vs TVG

Just signed up for U-Verse which carries both HRTV and TVG. Added the package and after adding I find out AT&T has dropped TVG but is in negotiations. The channel is still listed in their guides. Anyone know the major differences between the 2 channels in terms of the tracks covered and content?

One is a network whose passion for racing, wagering and history is evident in every aspect of their programming. The other is TVG.

I am a newer subscriber (about 2 months now) to U-verse as well. I knew they had both networks when I signed up, but HRTV was the reason I did sign up and it is wonderful. If this gives you any idea, you saying TVG had been dropped is the first I heard it, cuz I been keeping the dial on HRTV exclusively. I prefer the serious racing tone, and less of the comedy channel err TVG style. No doubt HRTV is the superior in quality programming for racing.

one channel you watch on mute, the other channel they actually say meaningful things.

Todd Schrupp and to a lesser extent Matt Carothers ruin TVG for me. When they are on (which is all the time) my TV is also muted until the race goes off.

TVG is borderline unwatchable. Mute is your friend.

JBJake 12-20-2013 09:50 AM

Guess it is a non-issue. They have kept the better channel. AT&T will tell you they are still in negotiation with TVG to try and get it back.

The U-Verse message board was interesting as apparently people thought that only about 6 people or so watched horse racing and they all had gambling problems. The perception of horse racing fans outside of the circle is just not good.

I had to bail on AT&T, going back to Direct, Losing my HRTV. agree the guys on TVG are annoying which tends to piss me off big time especially when I get beat out of a Pick 4 or something.

Have Comcast here, they only carry TVG. When I visit my son in SoCal he has both, just hoping someday Comcast gets HRTV someday

Have to admit, like some previous psoters, the mute is my friend.
I enjoy the work by Tom Amoss when he's on, prett much only during the Keeneland.

Comcast here too but to even get TVG, I would have to package it up with other channels that I do not want and pay more for "less". Comcast users should sned in their requests to add HRTV.......I did. and I would pay for the package if it were in it.

We only get TVG. My loss. Hopefully Comcast will soon get HRTV.

I have Comcast. Have been getting both HRTV and TVG for years now.

I'm pretty sure that TVG is standard with cable and HRTV is part of the "Sports Entertainment Package" for an additional $9 per month. Sports package includes several other channels like NFL Red Zone, ESPN Goal Line, Pac12 ntwrk, etc

You're right on that one. I have the sports package and HRTV is a part of it.

I agree, hrtv is the best. But at least you can watch the races on tvg. Hrtv is so 1990 in technology. Holy crap at least go digital.

Also. Who is. This. Guy. Called. Joaquin. Jaime. On. Tvg. Who. Has. To. Take. A. Long. Breath. After. Every. Word. He. Says. My god, he's awful.

If you like the NY Post - get TVG

If you prefer the Washington Post - get HRTV

santana 12-20-2013 06:34 PM

I have the Dish...we get both channels...Some days HRTV shows calf roping, Dressage. and other stuff when there is racing going on....Good to have both channels..

kingsize14u 12-20-2013 06:44 PM

I have always wondered if Dishnet is not available everywhere. I would think if DirectTv was available then Dish should be available. Dish carries both, as well as Roberts Communication channel which provides (at a separate subscription price) all racing and some or most in HD. I will watch night racing & The Quarters on TVG. By then the daytime clowns have left and some of the night time talent is very listenable to, especially qh racing from Los Al. Other than that Kasept summed it up perfectly. Also the XM side of XMSirius carries the HRTV feed during the day a lot of the time.
