CC Signs Endorsement Deal

The owners of California Chrome signed their first major sponsorship deal for the horse ahead of his attempt to be the first Triple Crown winner in 36 years.

Shoe brand Skechers will be featured on everything from the apparel of the horse's handlers to the horse's blanket, or fly sheet, to the barn leading up to the Belmont Stakes on June 7.

The owners may want to consider patching up that whole Churchill thing if they expected to reference the Kentucky Derby in any of these "promotions"

I respectfully disagree.

There's nothing to patch up, they commented on what was, to them, unsatisfactory, and everyone knows he won so his name needs no preface.

They can do anything they want with their horse without kissing up to anyone (or anywhere). :)

Why? Can't see CD lifting a finger here if they won't do it to get Ron Turcotte any assistance.

Any reference to the Kentucky Derby is owned by CDI. If they expect to use any footage, naming references, etc. in promotion, they will presumably need to broker a deal to do so. You can't reference the Super Bowl or anything related to it in advertising without expressed consent and permission from the NFL - this is no different.

Considering the fact that they haven't exactly endeared themselves to CDI, by calling them out on national TV...just saying....Would you put it past 'em?

The only two words they need are California and Chrome. It would be easy to use his name and likeness and work around any mention of the Derby.

They seem to have made up their differences.

"California Chrome co-owner Perry Martin said Tuesday that he was upset at Churchill Downs over his mother's view of the Kentucky Derby, but he will be back next week to receive the engraved Derby trophy.
"I really don't have any problems," Martin said in a telephone interview from his California laboratory on Tuesday. "We worked everything out."
