Much Love for Johnny D

Johnny D is the greatest friend of horse racing you will ever know. He loves the regular horse player. Johnny D and I know each other inside and out, even though we've never met. Johnny D's segment on "at the races" this week made me teary eyed. Yes, I said it. Teary eyed. His words captured every feeling I had last Saturday. I'm 47 years old and don't cry much at all. But my eyes can sure tear up once in a while. And they swelled and teared as AP came down the stretch. Like an F'in baby.
Johnny D has always said " We are a cult, and we always welcome new members. He is so correct. All of you out there try to bring newbies to this game. Because its the F'in greatest "lifestyle" in the world. You all know it"s a lifestyle.
I work 50 hours a week selling stuff in Pa, Nj, and DE every week. I spend another 50 hours a week breaking down the DRF. WE all have two jobs. And we all love our 2nd job more than our first. That's why we are here.
Johnny D, we are a cult! You are so right! Every day that I breathe I try to recruit new members. That's just what I do.
Thank you Johnny D!

Oxford was a great weekend.

blackthroatedwind 06-14-2015 09:20 AM

Not that many people care, but Oxford Speedway was the last great Grateful Dead weekend on the East Coast. 7/2-3/88. Amazing time and great shows. Plus, I got a lift in the parking lot to Boston and still made it to Belmont for most of the 4th of July card. The shuttle was great back then...and a LOT cheaper.

To the OP of this thread, while I enjoyed your chemically induced rant...I'm actually serious about enjoying Belmont. I want to enjoy all six months at Belmont-Saratoga-Belmont, and while Saratoga is an amazing place, and the plusses outweigh the minuses by a huge amount, working 50 straight days has it's drawbacks. I'm blessed to have the job I have, and Saratoga is heaven, but Belmont doesn't exactly suck. It's great being here every day. Plus, I enjoy doing things in NYC, and the only sort of annoying thing about Saratoga is that it goes fast...and Summer is essentially over when you get back to the City.

Grateful Dead is at least tied with Nirvana for most overrated band ever, and might actually get the nod.

Not even close, on either!

cakes44 06-14-2015 03:12 PM

You got Grateful Dead a clear cut winner? I'm good with that.

Alabama Stakes 06-14-2015 04:24 PM

Ponch, you've been spotted at more than one Loverboy concert. I know you idolized the Osmond brothers growing up. Your taste in music is sketchy at best. Do you really think that all those people who went to all those Dead shows went because they suck? Over rated ? I think not!
