Lava Man makes front page of USA Today
 

Normally, I don't need or want my news accompanied with colorful pie charts, but when Lava Man is in glorious full color on page one, I'll plunk down my seventy-five cents. From claimer to above-the-fold front page horse-- way to go, Lava Man!

The horse I'd like to see win this more than anything is Lava Man, but I think that Drifty will come prepared and he likes CD (not to mention being a live longshot.) It'd be nice to shut all the doubters up about Lava Man, though.

The USA Today is a very good paper. It caters to independents that don't like our news biased like in the NY Times and Washington Times. Us idiots can think for ourselves, we don't need an editorial page telling us how to think.

I don't see much about the Breeders Cup in the NY Times. One weak article.

Thank God for USA Today and it's colorful pie charts.

I don't think God had anything to do with USA Today. I think it was Allen Neuharth. And last I checked, it has an editorial page. What, you lose focus before you get to it? S'okay; not everyone can concentrate through 18 whole pages of news, including the pretty weather page. ;)

(I'm so just yanking your chain, Rev; you should feel free to enjoy McPaper as much as you want. In truth, I like my papers with more challenging crossword puzzles. A six-year old could do USA Today's puzzle.)

i'll be excited about whoever wins--some top-class horses, and can't wait to see who comes out on top.

but i think my grin would be just a bit bigger if lava man is in the front at the wire. perfect end to a perfect season for him. how often do we get to see PERFECTION??

and then, maybe we get to see him try again next year--now wouldn't that be something??

i think they should make a rule--every third colt born gets nadded, regardless of pedigree. hahaha, yeah RIGHT!

The editorial page in the USA Today is actually fair and balanced, unlike Fox News or the New York Times.

In fact, James Carville said if you really want to understand mainstream america you should read the USA Today. News, Sports, Entertainment, and a good Business section.

my only real beef with usa today is they don't do weekends. i like to curl up with the paper on sundays, and when we travel it's hard to find a good sunday paper. but if you buy a usa today, it's OLD news. luckily the wash post is available in larger cities...and just like old times, the ink comes off on your hands. don't wear white when you read the post!!

Never mind I got priced out of my old apartment after 12 years because I'm not rich! Never mind I haven't owned a car since I was 18 because I can't afford one! "Conundrum" would be an excellent crossword puzzle word. Three vowels and the rest of the letters are heavily used in other words.

I remember one NYTimes puzzle from a few years back that worked in the names of several Triple Crown winners. That one was so much fun!

And, as much as I would like to take credit for the "colorful pie charts" comment, I can't. It took me a while today to track down the source... I don't know who the author is. I read it years ago and it still makes me laugh:

1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.
2. The New York Times is read by people who think they run the country.
3. The Washington Post is read by people who think they should run the country.
4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don't really understand the Washington Post. They do, however, like their smog statistics shown in colorful pie charts.
5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn't mind running the country, if they could spare the time, and if they didn't have to leave L.A. to do it.
6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country and they did a far superior job of it, thank you very much.
7. The New York Daily News is read by people who aren't too sure who's running the country, and don't really care as long as they can get a seat on the subway.
8. The New York Post is read by people who don't care who's running the country either, as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated and when there are photographers present.
9. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure there is a country, or that anyone is running it; but whoever it is, they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority feministic atheist dwarfs, who also happen to be illegal aliens from ANY country or galaxy as long as they are democrats.
10. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country, but need the baseball scores.
11. The National Enquirer is read by people trapped in line at the grocery store.

Ok now that is a funny list....


Stupid Story:
I got a call earlier today from a friend of mine (who does NOT follow racing) saying that he had seen a big article on the front of "some paper" while he was in line at the store...said he glanced at the headline and read a few words, he got the idea it was about the world's latest super horse....I hadn't seen the article so i said which horse....he said you know the big one...so I said bernardini? and he said no it was a regular name like 'tar guy' or 'tar baby' (no offense meant to anyone)....I had to laugh and told him he must mean Lava Man....he said sure, that he wasn't far off anyway cause lava man and 'tar guy' are practically the same. :)

Funny story!
