I'm a big fan as well. The only excuse I can offer (and remember, excuses are for losers becuase winners don't have to make them), is that Javier moved him too early...at the 3/8th pole. Shoulda saved him for later. Not a bad race for him. I hope he passes on the good stuff to his foals. I don't think we'll see him run again (unfortunately). |
nah, he ran his race, like tommy and javier said. seems it wasn't quite enough this time.
|
I think that the jockey moved him too soon, but I'm not sure he could have beaten Invasors' kick!
|
I appreciate this thread and those fans of the horse that can admit he was beaten by the better horse on that day (although I think everyday :p ). It's a shame we'll never get to see them square off again but that's modern day horse racing.
|
Sure there are excuses. He got beat by an older more experienced warrior who this man (meaning me) thought would not be ready. Note to self: His trainer can get horses ready off a layoff.
He ran as well as he could given the circumstances. If Invasor was not there some would have him as Secretariat. Looking back, how was Javier supposed to know. Every race had been a cake walk after a move like he made. The field crumbled. This was a very different field. Full of good horses. I would not call it as deep as some of the prior years, but for an inexperienced (experienced in short mediocre fields) 3 year old to almost pull it off... a very nice run. |
Yeah that's the thing. Bernardini made a powerful move around the stretch and looked much the best. I think 'Dini is still a nice horse, but he was beaten by a star in Invasor.
Now- If Godolphin is just planning on using "dini for in house breeding, then they shuould retire him. But if they plan on selling off some of his breeding rights, let him race next year and build his credentials. A part of me says this too because I wanna see the two lock horns one more time. If Invasor beats him again... then he really is the best. But I wanna see them do ti again. |
His excuse was that it wasnt a five horse field and that the best other horse in the race didn't break his leg for a change. The most overglorified horse in the history of racing. He got his look in the eye, and showed no courage or heart never even looking for one fleeting moment as if he was going to battle back. Invasor bitch slapped him.

I thought that I saw Bernardini try to run back at Invasor at the wire and just past the wire. This excellent three year old got beat by a length by one of the worlds best in Invasor. It was a gutsy run and I would not say that just cause Bernardini lost that he couldnt look a horse in the eye and fight. He looked like a horse that wanted to fight but didnt have much left in the tank.

I agree DaHoss. What if he just wasn't good enough?
I could run with all my heart vs. Carl Lewis, but in the end he'll still smoke me in the 100 year Dash. AND YES THIS ANALOGY DOES APPLY TO YESTERDAY. So I don't understand all of this "Bernie has no heart" talk. And to set the record straight, I'm a longshot player who was trying to beat him. So I'm not trying to make any excuses on the basis of wagering here. I just hope we can see them go head to head 1 more time. Now that Bernie has this one under his belt, let's see how he responds. If they were to meet up again, and Invasor romps again, are you still gonna say "He's got no heart", or are you gonna say "Invasor is just better"? But I hope we get 1 more time to see... Otherwise- BRING ON DISCREET CAT |
Damn guys he is a three year old. You think he has peaked? Bernadini is a very good animal but inexperienced in battle. He just got a lesson. He stayed out of the cavalary charge that is the Kentucky Derby. He ran against small fields. If he would keep on running, I could easily see him becoming a great horse.

lol a little harsh there mike and i wouldnt call him the most overglorified horse in racing history, not by a longshot! im sure you really didnt mean that |
Invasor is really not all that much older.
Southern Hemisphere 3YO right? ran in the UAE Derby this year. Repent |
Quote:
as for him being a great 4yo. that is no sure thing. look no further than the 3yo last year that (like bernardini) followed up victories in the jim dandy and travers with a second place in the bcc. flower alley regressed considerably this year because apparently, he just stopped trying. same thing could easily have happened to bernardini if he had kept running |
Quote:
LOL please dont even mention flower alley in the same breath as bernardini, you wanna severly overrated horse theres 1 for ya! oracle was touting and raving flower alley up like no other before his campaign this year and now he slams bernardini, hmmmmmmmmmmm |
