Venue for February 5

Don't check out of your hotel yet. We're staying in [sort of] sunny South Florida and once again playing Gulfstream Park. The feature will be the Holy Bull, the first of Gulfstream's three Derby preps.

We will be playing races 3 through 12. Post time for race 3 will be 12:58 PM Eastern.

Hope to see you in the starting gate.

Might not be seeing me as it appears that there seems to be some hold up with the free PPs from Brisnet. All other venues seem to be present, but those from Gulfstream are not there. Maybe they'll appear later on today. Usually available late on Wednesday, but not this time.:( Snow and ice all around here in the Natural State so was looking forward to some handicapping while curled up in my easy chair under my blanky.:D

That snow and ice that is affecting Arkansas seems to be a very widespread storm, having an impact on much of the Eastern part of the US. We will probably be getting some of the wintery mix by tomorrow afternoon. I think that Brisnet is based in Kentucky, and that area is also getting hit by this storm. That might be slowing lots of things down. In the meantime, hope that you stay snug and warm. This too shall pass.

As a baseball fan, this is the time of year when I try to help winter pass by counting down the number of days until "pitchers and catchers report." Alas, due to the MLB lockout I can't even do that.:(

We have a "snowy, icy mess" here in north Texas as described by one of our local weather guys. No need to go out, got groceries two days ago and catching up on laundry and folding clothes is enough to force me into several nap times today. Lows in the teens and single digit wind chills are not good for dog walking, which is still must do several times a day. As Joe Friday used to say "it's a glamourless, thankless job but it's gotta be done". At least we don't have power outages like we had last year for several days in early Feb. Bring on sunny south Florida, at least in my mind :)

Try this link: http://www.horse-races.net/library/l...rformances.htm

There are several sites where you can get them, but this seems to be the most comprehensive. However, under the listing of sires, you don't get all of them. For example, all the horses under Spendthrift Farm are not listed in the listing of individual horses. Hope that makes sense.

Yep, the power outages are the big thing. Snow we can deal with, but ice something else. Seems like we get one of those big ice storms about every 10 years or so. People go into complete panic mode. You would think we were in the middle of Montana. If you are late going to the grocery store, the shelves will be bare of things like milk, eggs, bread, etc. It can be a big inconvenience especially in homes like mine which are all electric. Pretty much have to bail out of your home, if the power is lost for even a few days. I finally invested in a generator so not so easily driven out these days. Don't even try to drive on frozen roadways. People speed crazy and don't adjust their driving habits so there are many crashes or cars sliding off the road. Sort of like a demolition derby to even try. Better to hole up in your domicile, if you can.

Agree Cal, people who were born and grew up south of the mason-dixon line are not good handling snow, sleet or ice. My wife and I grew up in upstate NY so we still have vivid memories of long, brutal winters and snow accumulations of 3-4 ft. The cities, counties and states are prepared for up there but not so much down here since it happens rarely. And the crazy Texans and southerners go out and do exactly what you're not supposed to do . . . walk to fast on ice and fall, drive to fast, slam on their brakes when driving, get in accidents and so on and so on.

It'll all be gone in a couple of days here, but those same crazy people will still be here and likely do other crazy stuff.

Well, here in our senior apartment complex I walk dogs for those who are unable too. Helps them and me with extra cash and good exercise for 1 1/2 - 2 hrs a day, that's counting my wonderful Emma four times a day. :D After 34 yrs as a professional Architect, I am now proudly a professional dog walker and love it.

Most of the time, I can find the PPs for a given race, but not all the time. I generally go to DRF to determine whether they will be listed under a trainer, or a sire, but there are times when they are not available, which usually happens when they are state breds. This happens when we play some place like Laurel so if it only costs a dollar for Brisnet PPs, it might be worth it to continue to get them that way, if you don't want the trouble of having to hunt them down and still maybe not find them.

PPs finally up for Gulfstream. All of our contest races, I think, are under Todd Pletcher except for Race 4 which will be under Hard Spun in the sire listing and Race 10 which will be under Graham Motion. Good luck all.

Interesting that the pp's now include the ML odds, but the list of entries at Equibase does not yet except for race 1 and the Holy Bull. It looks as if many things are moving slower than usual today. Those pp's can be really difficult to track down at times, especially at some of the smaller tracks where the name trainers don't operate or where most of the runners don't come from popular sires. For example, the Fair Grounds cards a large number of races for LA breds, and finding pp's for Star Guitar or other LA based sires' offspring is almost impossible.

I noticed that Oaklawn has already cancelled racing tomorrow due to weather. Hope that you stay warm and safe Cal despite the rotten weather.
