Seize the Grey will run in Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile
David Grening | Oct 15, 2024

Seize the Grey, the Preakness and Pennsylvania Derby winner, will make his next start in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on Nov. 2 at Del Mar, trainer D. Wayne Lukas said Tuesday.

Following Seize the Grey’s victory in the Grade 1, $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx on Sept. 21, Lukas had left the $7 million Classic, at 1 1/4 miles, open as a possibility. On Tuesday, Lukas said after conferring with the ownership group that includes My Racehorse and Gainesway Farm, the decision was made to run in the Dirt Mile.

“I just think he might be more tactically suited there, we’re a good fit there,” Lukas said. “They were leaning toward the Mile and I couldn’t argue with that.”

Sweet Azteca will skip BC Filly and Mare Sprint, trainer says
Brad Free | Oct 20, 2024

ARCADIA, Calif. – Sweet Azteca, the Grade 1 winner recently ranked among the favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, will not be pre-entered, trainer Michael McCarthy said Sunday.

A five-time winner from seven starts, Sweet Azteca finished last as the odds-on favorite in the Grade 3 Chillingworth Stakes on Oct. 5 at Santa Anita, the first misfire of her career. McCarthy and owner-breeder Pam Ziebarth postponed a Breeders’ Cup decision until Sweet Azteca resumed training. Sunday morning, it was made official.

“She’s been quiet for the last five or six days,” McCarthy said via text early Sunday morning. “Going to skip BC.”

D'Amato will hold Stronghold out of BC Dirt Mile in favor of fall rest
Steve Andersen | Oct 20, 2024

Santa Anita Derby winner Stronghold will be held out of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar on Nov. 2 in favor of an autumn rest and a scheduled comeback in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs at Santa Anita on Dec. 26.

Trainer Phil D’Amato said on Sunday that Stronghold was always going to have a rest this fall, either before or after the BC Dirt Mile.

“We’ve run him a lot this year,” D’Amato said. “We were going to run in the Breeders’ Cup and give him a rest, or give him a break now and wait for the Malibu and have a nice 4-year-old year.”

There is a better chance, and a good one at that, that Domestic Spending is the second choice than Mufasa being a shorter price.

I think there is zero chance that an injured and retired horse is even running in this race ;)
