Wealthy people often have companies and things to run, they don't have all day to watch races or read the form at like 10 tracks a day. They delegate authority to people who do.
The notion that a 5% commission earned by an agent is mooching is pretty funny. In most cases its an underpayment. Try this sometime ok?
Watch races from like 6-8 tracks a day live or on replay. Go over the charts of the tracks you can't see.
Then establish what you think may be a good buy based on years of learning and understanding teh business.
Then call up folks and ask if the horse is for sale. If it is you have to negotiate between the two parties. Then if it is you have to draw and send a written contract.
Arrange for vetting, oh yeah if it doesnt vet guess who eats the bill like a taco from Taco Bell?
It it does, arrange for money wire transfers and then arrange for shipping and the proper papers to be sent along with him. Make sure you have a valid and notarized bill of sale or he or she can't run in most jurisdictions unless you do with the foal papers.
Sound like fun? Sound like mooching? Good luck chief.
