I think that Cal is correct in his original calculation. While a $1 trifecta box with 4 horses has 24 combinations, my math tells me that a $1 exacta box with 4 horses has only 12 combinations.
Cal's wager breaks down to the following:
3 with 4,6 and 7 (3 combinations)
4 with 3,6 and 7 (3 more combinations)
6 with 3,4 and 7 (3 more combinations)
7 with 3,4 and 6 (3 final combinations for a total of 12)
In this instance, I would say that Cal's wagering chart is accurate.
