I remember that happening to me one time and it was scary not finding my car for a long time thinking it was stolen.
My "lost car" story . . .

I was wrking in Greenville, SC and went to the mall close by for a quick lunch in the food court. I r an into to Clemson classmates so we all had lunch together. After were done they offered to dirvge me back to work, they worked in the same building. That day after work, with an hour overtime, Iwnet our to the parking lot and there were only a few cars left and I didn't see mine anywhere. I looked out front, no car. I'm thinking holy crap somebody stole my car. I cslled my wife Patty and told her about it and I was getting ready to call the police I hung up with here and as I started dialing the police somebody hit me up side the head with a 2x4 . . . had to be my guardian angel and it came to me that I left my car at the mall and forgot all about.

I called Patty back and told her, she had a very good chuckle. I asked her to come get me and drive me to the mall. She said I'm fixing dinner, can you want 45 mins . . . long pause . . . I walked to the mall about 2 miles away, moanimg and mumbling all the way. Dinner was good though.

PS - didn't see them again for some time and started thinking that they planned that on purpose to get back at me for walking in with my architectural project design boards all ready to go while most of the class was still drawing up to the final hour. I was married, with a young daughter, so I worked on my projects mostly in our apartment. After awhile, I'd get hissed and booed coming in like that every semester and to make it worse, I got A's and A+'s for every project we had. I'm sure they did "the car ride back to work" knowing exactly what was going to happen.
