He may have been joking, because he then mentioned that Bernardini should be afraid of Invasor. Nonetheless, Kieran has a healthy respect for the 3 year old. Before the Preakness (according Steve Haskins' article about that race in the BloodHorse), he was quoted as saying that Bernardini was a "very, very good horse".

Some had speculated (not on this board) that the Sheikh's don't like to run their horses against each other (not counting the BC), but clearly that is not true. Bernardini's connections have their sights set on a championship run and he has to win the Travers and beat older horses at least once (I don't believe he has to run the table, though) to have a chance. Yet Invasor's connections want HOY for their colt, and if they have to stand in the way of Bernardini, clearly they don't have a problem doing so. That's fine by me - this is what racing is all about. It's fun to see how a terrific 3 year old stacks up against a terrific older horse
