Default Royal Ascot

The second day at Royal Ascot could be a big day for Godolphin as they have one each meant to win in the Jersey Stakes and the Winsor Stakes. Both Shakespearean and Antara are coming into their second start of 2010 and each posted nice efforts in their first of the year starts.

In the 1st of the day in addition to Shakespearean I like Free Judgement but I give both Red Jazz and Rainfall nice shots at prices and will play them underneath the top two for value.

In the 2nd I give the Godolphin runner Antara a better chance than his stable mate in the first in what looks to be slightly easier spot. His main competition will come from Sir Michael Stout’s Strawberrydaiquiri and Pyrrha who making his first start of 2010 but is coming off a very nice pattern of improving performances and should be nice value (15 – 1).

In the Prince of Wales Stakes (the only Group 1 of the day) none of these veterans really stand either on current form or historical record above the rest. Andre Fabre’s Byword comes the closest to fitting the bill but I’m concerned that it is the jock’s first start at Royal Ascot. Among the rest I think that Twice Over could improve first start after an ineffective performance at Meydan but he has a tendency not to win. So in looking for a price I landed on Presvis. He looks to be a tough luck sort who has competed at this level, gets Kieren Fallon to ride and should be value.
