Several of the important older horse races have been fairly competitive this year, including the Donn, Oaklawn Handicap, Alysheba, Pimlico Special, Met Mile, and possibly this race.
However, with the exception of the Met Mile, there has been little by way of true Grade 1 talent.
Unfortunately, missing from action is Mucho Macho Man, who hasn't worked since his disappointing effort at Churchill. He looked to have a big year and could have added to some of these races. At least Flat Out, now in Bill Mott's barn, appears to be closing in on a start.
Meanwhile, I hope something from back East takes a shot at the Hollywood Gold Cup. I'd rather not see Game On Dude and Richard's Kid run 1-2 in a merry-go-round 5-horse field. Morning Line is probably toast and was suspect at 10f anyways. Maybe Hymn Book will forego the Suburban to take a shot. Ron The Greek, too, since he's already won in CA and might be kept apart from new stablemate Flat Out.
