Default Worst Beat Ever still stings

Came across this today and it still stings 8 years later. I wound up winning the Pick 4 and was alive to the 1 and 4 in this leg. Vic actually made things worse for me by giving me about 5 minutes thinking I was on the verge of a massive score...

Wow that is your takeaway that I am redboarding an 8 year old 2-5 shot.. Whatever. I was sharing a bad beat story and was hoping others would post the same. As far as me bashing Vic, lol. Vic calls a great race. It is a shame he is unemployed, surely he can call a better race than a whole lot out there.

The Hollywood Gold Cup was the third leg in the pick 4 that day. Did you have All in the last leg? To be considered a tough beat was if Ace Blue had won and you had lost by a nose in the last leg.

I had a friend alive to the heavy chalk in the last race of the place pick all. Had a three length lead inside the sixteenth pole when it stumbled so badly the jock lost his seating but managed to barely hang on to the neck of the horse.

Somehow the jockey hung on and remounted the horse. By this time one had already passed him, but as he regained momentum nearing the wire, a second horse nipped him at the finish.

That is more of what I would say is a bad beat.

He said he hit the p-4, it didn't matter how many he had in the last as it turned out. Technically you're right that he cashed but the payout difference between a 3/5 and a 24/1 is huge even in a 5 horse field.

In the last at Los Al yesterday someone scooped the p6 for 50k. In the 4 horse field the 6-1 2nd choice beat the 1/5 favorite by a head. Had the result been reversed do you think the guy who had both horses would'nt have pondered what could have been?

The only difference between the payout leg and the other legs is that you know exactly what each horse pays.

anytime you lose by a nose, its always tough. dont get caught up in looking at that horse as a 24/1 shot. look at that horse as a "5th choice horse". in a 10 horse field, the 5th choice is about 8/1 to 12/1. you also have more players just hitting the all button in a five horse field. if you play this game long enough, you will find many more new and interesting ways to lose. a worst beat is just around the corner for you and you will quickly forget about this one.

Count yourself lucky that it happened to you once..

Would you put Ed Burgart in the category of one of the worst T-bred announcers currently calling races? I don't follow all tracks, but I can't think of many worse?

Actually haven't caught any races. My only exposure to Los Al has been late nights on derby day after a long day of partying/betting. He seemed fine calling the Quarters.
