Default Take Charge Brandi Injured-Out of Rebel & KY Oaks

from Thoroughbred Daily News:

Quote:
Juvenile filly champion Take Charge Brandi (Giant’s Causeway) will miss an expected engagement in Saturday’s GII Rebel S. after suffering a non-displaced chip in her right knee. The filly will ship to Kentucky Tuesday evening and is expected to undergo surgery with Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood and Riddle Wednesday, according to owner Willis Horton.

“We could turn her out for 90 days and she would get well, but if we operate and put in a small pin, she’ll be out 60 days,” Horton said Tuesday morning. “Dr. Bramlage said she would come back 100%.”

Take Charge Brandi was named last year’s champion 2-year-old filly after wins in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, GIII Delta Downs Princess S. and GI Starlet S. She won her sophomore debut in the Jan. 31 Martha Washington S. and was expected to take on juvenile champion American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in the Rebel.

“It’s a killer as far as I’m concerned,” Horton said of missing the Rebel. “I was looking forward to it so much. It hurts, but we’ve been lucky with her. She’s never had a pimple on her up until this. But everything will be fine hopefully.”
