Default Portrero Grande BCH -G2

Saturday, SA, Race 5

anyone know morning line odds?

assessment:

Smokey Stover: the NOW horse, can stalk the pace and pounce. Love the connections ( same as Lost in The Fog ). Gryder suits him to a tee + good post (4)

Greg's Gold: off for 18 and a half months, ran his eyeballs out scorching 6f in 1.09. Does he improve or regress off that effort?

Bordonaro: Miggy jumps off for Greg's Gold, gets Mikey Smith 21.2 - 44 speed, goes an extra 1/2 furlong. Never been 6.5 in his life

Sailor's Sunset should pop and stop

Gotaghostofachance: name says it all

My Guy: too cheap + just not fast enough

final thoughts: Smokey Stover picks up Bordonaro at the wire. would like Bordanaro ALOT more if miggy would have stayed aboard.

The reason Mig is off Bordonaro is because he is almost certain to scratch.

"Bill Spawr entered Bordonaro in the race but said he would wait until the last minute before deciding to run or not. “I want to see the draw and if it’s not to our satisfaction, we already have a plane reserved for Arkansas (the Grade III Count Fleet Handicap at Oaklawn Park on Friday, April 13),” the trainer said Wednesday morning. Bordonaro drew the rail in a field of six and Tyler Baze was named to ride instead of regular rider Richard Migliore, who was named on Greg’s Gold."

Yeah....he hasn't been the same since the Breeders Cup. The last thing he needs is the rail and an extra 1/2 furlong to deal with.
The race at Oaklawn should be an easier spot next week, and he looked great running out there last Spring.

My early picks for the SA Stakes races this Saturday.

SA Derby - Sam P
Arcadia - Porto Santo
Potrero Grande - Smokey Stover

The G3 race for fillies on the turf looks impossible to handicap.
