Another Saratoga Question
Can anyone tell me about the Turf Terrace dining room at Saratoga? I am making my first visit to Saratoga in a few weeks, but its part of a family reunion trip, so the family has reserved us seats in that dining room. I am not thrilled about this really, and I know there is a dress code, so I wont be able to wear my jeans and Rags to Riches t-shirt....LOL! So I will be in a sundress I guess! But I dont want to sit in a restaurant all day. Can you see anything from there? Is it outside? Or can you just see on TV, like an OTB? I think my plan is to make my appearance with my family, and then skip out and do what I normally do at a racetrack. Advice?
The real drag about the dress code thing is, that morning I will be watching the workouts and having breakfast, and maybe do the touristy backside tour thing. So I guess I have to haul around my change of clothes for the hoity-toity restaurant! UGH!

I went to the Turf Terrace a few years ago with a large group of friends & family. The food was Ok & the drinks took a long time to get to the table. You can see the entire track from start to finish. The restaurant is right past the finish line on the third level. It is a decent place, but Saratoga is all about the back picnic area.
Enjoy your day. |

I watched the steeplechase race from there open house day when there was no dress code or service or anything. Looked like an OK location but not worth missing out on the experience of Saratoga. Get down to the paddock and over to the DT hangout behind the main Carolina BBQ stand near the Carousel and you will have a much better time.

I'd have to say there isn't much for the majority of those there. Faced with the option of sitting in dirt and dust all day in a park with 20,000 people that don't even go up to the track to watch a race, I can't say I understood the draw.
I'm sure things are great for those that can afford to sit in the fancy seats and be wined and dined to death but how many actually can afford to do that? My grandstand seats on Sunday were fine as I was able to actually see the races - and that's what I go to the track for. I visited a friend who was sitting in the clubhouse Carousel dining area and he never got up to watch a race. I didn't stay with him long - not my cup of tea not being able to see the actual live races. To each his/her own, though.... |

I guess the picnic is a good way for a Dad to drag his wife to the track with the kids. I like to wine and dine, but before I do that I sit by the main BBQ stand after morning works. I usually walk around for a while when they clear the track, then make it over to where Im going to the box I could never do the picnic thing, and I could never be at a racetrack with kids or a woman.
It does have something for everyone though |
