Anyone know much more about this?
Edmonds banned over milkshaking
by Racing Post staff SYDNEY-BASED trainer Toby Edmonds has been banned for six months after a blood sample produced a high bicarbonate level, the test used to discover cases of milkshaking. The positive sample was found from Edmonds-trained Heavenly Warrior, who finished third at Kembla Grange on July 21. Edmonds, who acknowledged using unregistered feed supplements, plans to appeal against the ban, handed out on Monday by stewards in New South Wales. “Obviously we need to be more stringent in what we use,” he said. “But I have been training for almost 20 years with an almost unblemished record.” An official in the inquiry gave evidence that Edmonds had already been warned after another horse in his stable returned an elevated bi-carb level in June. In NSW, horses may not be treated with any substance on raceday, although they can be ‘drenched' to permitted limits at other times. According to aapracing.com.au, Edmonds said he often ‘drenched' fancied horses two days prior to their running. However, he claimed he had been absent from his yard when Heavenly Warrior and the drench had been administered on Friday instead. >>A decision has been reserved on the appeal of Lisa Cropp, New Zealand's champion jockey, against a three-month ban sustained in Queensland for failing to ride out one of her mounts. Cropp was banned after making a seemingly premature celebratory gesture on Lilakyn in the valuable Brisbane Cup in June. Her mount was touched off in the Group 2 event.
