Default NFL rankings after week 8

1. New England- hard to not have them # 1, even though most of their opponents have been lousy
2. Indy- clear # 2 with a chance to bump NE off
3. Pitt- best of the rest
4. San Diego-- seems back after slow start
5. Dallas- gave NE a good game for 3 quarters
6. Tennessee-under the radar but very good
7. NY Giants- have narrowed the gap between themselves and Cowboys in NFC
8. Green Bay-- only concern is poor running game
9. Jacksonville-- they'd be higher w/Garrard but that backup QB is absolutely terrible
10. New Orleans--now rolling after a bad start

Speaking of Jacksonville, how can you cut a sub par QB in Leftwich when you have that QB as their backup now. He is putrid. I think Del Rio is a good coach but Leftwich had to be banging his daughter or something for him to make that move, moronic.....

I don't think he has a daughter (he did have a mansion on the river, but I believe now lives in a Ponte Vedra Country Club). It was all about the $$$$$$
Leftwich was making WAY too much money to be a back-up.

"1. New England- hard to not have them # 1, even though most of their opponents have been lousy."

doesn't that perception of their opponents say a lot?

san diego has allowed an average of 18.4 points/game through last week.
ne scored 38

buffalo has allowed an average of 19.3
ne scored 38

dallas has allowed 22.6
ne scored 48

washington has allowed 20.0
ne scored 52

all those average points allowed stats include the points ne put up against the team.

none of those are bad d's.

meanwhile their d is averaging 15.9 ppg scored against.

they built this team to beat indy.

your #1 and #2 aren't close.

OK..Obviously biased, but how can SD and NYG be ahead of GB considering they beat them both already? And I'm not sure I would put Tennesse there either. Or Pitt considering they lost to Denver at DEnver and GB beat them there Mon night.

1 and 2 certainly right, Dallas 3, GB 4..
at least until we lose at KC Sunday...

1) PATRIOTS - the NFL'S "evil empire, the team you love to hate!
2) COLTS - defending champions and the team with "class"
3) COWBOYS - best in the "junior" league, QB is thier future ($$$)!
4) PACKERS - ageless wonder @ QB w/ young talent, surprise
5) GIANTS - we saw this last year.....this time no Tiki
6) STEELERS - surprising start for my "Men of Steel" under new coach, division looks a lock with win this week.
7) TITANS - not pretty, but get the job done.
8) LIONS - who would thought? beat the "big bad Bears" @ home, finally a decent team.
9) JAGUARS - the team I "love to hate", done with "smoke and mirrors", still winning record.
10) CHARGERS - best 4-3 record & now on a roll, little too late???

"Bottom feeders"

32) DOLPHINS - change of country did not help
31) RAMS - injuries or not, can't blow 14-0 when you're this bad...oh I forgot
30) FALCONS - can we say Matt Ryan?
29) JETS - find ways to lose
28) 49ERS - can't score with Frank Gore
27) VIKINGS - can we say Matt Ryan II
26) RAIDERS - after somewhat good start...more of the same
25) BENGALS - crime doesn't pay!

The cowboys # 3?.. Whats going happen after the beagles spank them this week ? The G-men #5.... after they beat #32 Fins by 3 points ? The titans #7... after they ""lucked"" out beating the Silver & black @ home ? The lions #8 ... who got smoked by the beagles ? After watching the season soooo far... I really Question if there is a Top 10 in the NFL.
My other question is what is going to happen when come team RUNS up the score on ""hoodies"" team ? Suppose the colts are up 38-7 on sunday, and with a 4th and two... Peyton comes back in and throws a TD pass to Marvin ?

There is a Top 2...a middle 20 or so that can all beat each other on any given day and the rest who truly stink

I agree. Every team below the Top 2 has the ability to look putrid as often as they look good. There is a massive gap between 2 and 3.

The thought of the Lions, Titans, Jags or Giants being top 10 teams makes me shudder.

I agree that the Eagles will give the Cowgirls all they can handle this weekend. One area in which I think you are wrong is when you question team's rankings because of who beat them. Example. The Birds crushed the Lions, a team who has defeated the Bears twice. Yet the Bears beat the Birds. So with that said, Eagles>Lions>Bears>Eagles??? Like someone has said before, it's the top two teams, then a scramble each week between the rest. Hell, one can argue that if the Birds had a half competent punt returner at the time, they would have beaten the now 6-1 Packers. Also, had the refs not pulled that penalty out of obscurity (false start if the QB never touches the snap), the Eagles would have beaten the Bears. Football is a game of inches and what if's. Teams that deserve to win, win. Plain and simple.

Injuries, hot streaks, weather, home field advantage, etc., etc. have a large say in the matter.
So, what I am saying, in effect, is that rankings mean less of a $hit when it comes to what team will show up any given sunday. Look at the Steeler's a few years ago. Made the playoffs by the skin of thier teeth, only to make som real noise in the playoffs.

And BTW, the Titans are alot better than most people give them credit for. Fisher is one of the best at interchanging players and not skipping a beat. Probably the best team that noone has heard of. No real superstars, just 53 guys that go out and play a grinding style of football.

another deluded Beagles fan speaks... won any Super Bowls lately? Cowboys have 5 wins in 8 appearances. Beagles have 2 losses and not even sniff at a win. Dick Vermeil, Buddy Ryan, Andy Reid -- and no SB victories.

And those Super Bowls in the past don't mean jack $hit this year. Why does every Cowboys fan bring up the ring every time they feel threatened. Really, the past is the past, bud.
Why do I have this feeling that you're gonna bring up the ring next week when your boys are flying home losers.

BTW, Dallas isnt even a city. It's a gathering of shunned circus folk. I was there a few years ago, horrible city would be an understatement. What kind of city cant even protect our own country's President??

For a matter of Record..... Im a proud member of the Raider Nation... , I just happen to live around Beagles country. There is something about the cowgirls coming into philly and getting spanked. Just ask M. Irvin # 88

Re: GB, right now there's now doubt in my mind both the NYG and SD would be favored over them on a neutral field. The Packers have played great; defense is very solid, good QB play and solid receivers. But when the weather gets cold, and it will up there, you HAVE to be able to run the ball and GB can't. Head to head results aren't the end-all in NFL rankings, especially when you are talking about games 6 weeks ago.
