http://www.clearstreaming.com/radios...sandbeyond.asx

On newstands now, Shulman and B-H devote more than 25 pages to analysis of the synthetic 'movement'...
  • Its' effect on horses, tracks, field size, handle, and more..
  • Perspective from trainers, owners, vets, farriers, breeders, sales companies, track management and more..
  • Breakdowns and injury realities and track maintenance fallacies..

Lenny and B-H have provided a balanced view of Synthetics and what the future may hold.. Don't miss his visit!

If you want a handicapper's perspective on the stuff sometime, let me know. While I don't have any particular fondness for fake dirt, I still find it very important to understand the differences between it and dirt.

CJ,

They talked to horseplayers as well.. According to those that have seen it, this B-H special issue is the most comprehensive coverage of the synthetic surfaces that's been broached by racing media.

agreed. there are those who pull no puches in their dislike and they really covered the majority of professions that deal with it.

Default Good report from Bloodhorse

on synthetic surfaces. go to the link and download it if you're interested, its a large file containing fairly indepth coverage and analysis of all the new surfaces that have been put down in the last few years. plenty of reaction from owners, trainers, jockeys, maintenance crew, etc.

That's great that they made it available over the internet (versus through the subscription in the issue) - thanks for the link!

Default ATR guest request

Steve - for your followup, could you please try and get a telephone interview with Dr. Mick Peterson (especially), and/or Dr. Wayne McIllwraith?

Both have been the clear leaders in the field for examining track surfaces and their relationship to racehorse injury.
