Zacks' GP Notebook: Desert Key
From Steve Zacks' excellent weekly GP summary on Handicapper's Edge.. I know some people were interested in this J. Jerkens runner...
DESERT KEY (E Dubai) beat only the pulled-up runner in today's 4TH race (Last Wed.). However the big, good-looking colt was making his first start for Jimmy Jerkens and did not look particularly well set up for today. And Jimmy wins about three times as often second time than first time. He was rank (or playful?) in the post parade and Kent Desormeaux did not take long to let him go for a gallop. Un-blinkered and leaving from the 1-hole, Desert Key blew the doors off the rest of the field in the day's fastest first quarter. I rather suspect that today was not the intended day. I look forward to his return following some time and interim schooling -- probably early at Belmont. If he can settle down and carry his speed, he might have some talent.
