One of the all-time great % swings by a trainer
After a 1-for-69 meet with just five 2nd place finishes at Tampa this winter - trainer Glenn Wismer is on top of the PID trainer standings with an 11-for-21 mark including six 2nd place finishes.
Going from a 1.4% win rate - to a 52.4% winning clip. As well as an 8.7% clip in the exacta to an 81% exacta strike rate. Logic would suggest PA's recent ban on steroids would have something to do with the big turn-around. However, Wiz was the single most upset trainer about the steroid ban I spoke with prior to the meet. He had no horses on the grounds opening day - and was leaning towards not coming at all and going to Colonial instead. He shipped in a pair on the 3rd day of the meet, both won easily, and that changed his mind. It's doubtful Wismer can fend off the Steve Asmussen barn in races won for much longer - as Asmussen brought many 2-year-olds cut out to be fairly serious horses here and he is totally stuffing most of his claimers. However, it would seem safe to assume that the stallion Cozar has emerged as a tapeta surface powerhouse at all tracks which feature a giant landfill a mile away from where all the horses are stabled. |

He almost didn't come at all...so it's hard to say he had been pointing for it all along.
It's certainly good to see him doing well again though. |
