Default Vegas

I am going to be in Las Vegas July 18 - 23 and was wandering if anyone had any suggestions on the best places to play, Or if anyone knows of tournaments going on. Maybe someone could show me around. Thanks Jim

I'm a big fan of the Vegas Hilton. The race and sports book is terrific, it's huge and the televisions are all in good, working order. The deli inside the book is outstanding.

If you are a bit of a sizable player the staff at the Hilton will take care of you with current/future comps. They also have a contest called Super Saturdays which is cheap ($30/entry, up to 3 per player). They designate five signals from across America and you have five mythical $100 win/place bets to spread across the tracks (usually NY, CA, KY, IL, and LA). There's no cap but simply a small supply of wagers available to you.

In terms of other race books, Mandalay Bay is very big but a lot of the televisions are broken and it is heavily geared towards sports, in my opinion.

Bellagio is lavish, Wynn seems OK, and that's about it in terms of good ones.

Have a great time, Vegas is the most exciting city in the world.

If you're looking for lower limit poker tourneys, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo all run NL hold'em tourneys daily for $50 or under buy-in with no re-buys. Well run and payout a good number of places.

Played Excalibur many times (cashed all but 2). They're held 3X a day and have a $35 buy-in.

Best horse books are Wynn, Hilton, Orleans. Other top sportsbooks are Bellagio, Caesars and Mirage. MGM redid their sportsbook last year (all plasma screens), but there are not many places to sit... however... drinks in that book were free... IF you were playing horses. Most of them charge you regardless of what sports/horses you're playing or even how much you're playing.

Waiting for the end of November... my trip out there this year.

Venetian sports book is not bad....if you are playing they give you coupons for free drinks. Mirage is good too...agree on MGM way to small.

As far as Sportsbooks I really liked the Mirage, did not like Treasure Island at all, and thought the Wynn was pretty damn nice.

You can be shown around allright...but it's gonna cost you plenty. Scavs is more in tune with the going rate for those services.

Let me tell you something, I haven't done something more fun then that night where I was just talking to hookers on the strip, it was absolutely awesome. I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

Probably a good thing we weren't there at the same time. I would have had them talked into paying us for our services

I think I have been to Vegas about 7 or 8 times and stayed a few different places. As far as sportsbooks goes:

Hilton: I loved it. Big and took good care of me.
Excaliber: Very underrated...I really liked it alot. Plenty of room with tons of TV's
Mandalay: Overrated IMO
New York, New York: Very small, but useful
Caesars: Fair...nothing spectacular

You're just going to miss the Gold Coast handicapping tourney starting on the 24th.

Finding info is like pulling teeth. I guess horses take a back seat in LV. You'll have to call them (or get luckier on a net search than I did)

Since I'm not entering, I'm not sure of the details other than the $400 entry fee. I remember that top prize last year was in the $80K range.

saw this and happened to have the brochure in a stack on the desk - quick summary -

Email: contest@coastcasinos.net
Info and Registration: 1-888-566-7223, local (702) 365-7420

July 24 - 26
Top 10 winners qualify for the 2009 Coast Casinos Horseplayer World Series
Entry fee is $400
Each contestant will make fifteen individual WIN and PLACE [mythical] wagers per day on selected race tracks. Tracks will be designated. Contestants may play any races from the designated tracks.
More than one horse may be selected per race, but each wager must be $200 to WIN, $200 to Place. Each $200 win/$200 Place wager is a separate bet and will count as one of the fifteen wagers for the day.
Contest points will be based on full track odds for the first $20. The remainder of the wager will be credited at a maximum of 20/1 on the Win and 10/1 on the Place.
Point totals accumulate for three days
Entries will be limited to ten per person (no partners)
Contest tracks will be determined six weeks prior to the start of the contest [so they should be able to give you that info..]
The payout is 1-50 and is a percentage - they illustrate prize money based on 550 entrants - [1st $88k, 2nd $33K, 3rd $15k etc...] don't know if they're going to get that many in a mid-summer tournament, guess another thing to ask if you call..

An extra $19.5k in daily prizes paid by Coast Casinos to 1-3rd place finishers

GOOD LUCK!
