Soriano
Hit his 32nd blast today.Hard for me to believe that the 2 rich n' greedy New York City teams aren't gunna land this guy.Even if they don't want to give up great prospects, these 2 teams can easily afford to give Washington 10 mil for the rest of the season. Is that within the rules?

The 2 rich n greedy NYC teams? One has a $200M payroll and the other $100M. Big difference. The Red Sox, Angels and White Sox have higher payrolls than the Mets. Half the league is within 25M of the Mets. The Yankees are the losers that have double everyones payroll and are fighting for their Wildcard life. The Mets don't need Soriano. They are cruising to the playoffs. It is just wait and see who we are playing time. |

Mets do not have 'playoff' pitching...They have good pitching but it isn't playoff caliber, besides Pedro.....

Its interesting that the Yankees are called "pig like" and that they buy championships. Yes, Steinbrenner has spent a ton of money on the yanks the last few years but he has been unable to "buy" a title. Take that in contrast to the recent Yankee dynasty. Those teams were composed of players that were predominantly either homegrown or acquired by trading homegrown prospects. The nucleus was all homegrown. Jeter, williams, posado,Pettite all came up through the yankee system.
Interestingly enough, the teams that have "bought" championships in recent years successfully have been the Marlins, dbacks and yes the red sox. When i say "bought" a title i mean that the core of the lineup was not homegrown. Baseball has no salary cap. The Yankees bring in the most money via the cablevision deal and merchandizing not to mention ticket sales. Would people rather Steinbrenner kept the money instead of spending it on his team? If he did that, wouldnt people then call him "greedy"? The blame for the vast disparity in payroll team by team lies purely in the corner of the league and the other owners. In football, what do you guys think Daniel Snyder or Jerry Jones would do if the rules were like they are in baseball? What DID Debartolo and Jack Kent Cooke do? Why didnt anyone ever accuse the niners or the skins of "buying" championships when they were in their heyday? What would Jerry Buss do in basketball if their were no luxury tax? Steinbrenner plays within the rules and does his best to make the Yankees as competitive as possible. The Yankee organization should be commended for their constant dedication to winning. |

Yes,I understand that they are doing exactly as much as what they can get away with. What I can't understand (at all,)is the sense of accomplishment that Yankee fans seem to feel when their 200 million dollar team beats teams with half their payroll. The only acceptable result should be winning the World Series. Then, one can tell us that the team (with 2x the payroll as anybody else,)has done something. It's one thing to have a team with 2x the pay as somebody else, but it is another thing to boast when that team makes the playoffs. Is it not absurd to do that? You spend 200 million? I think you might want to be expecting to to make the playoffs quite easily.Maybe by the middle of September. You don't see that? When you spend 200 mil a year, injuries should possibly effect winning the Championship(not the division.)

"But what are they supposed to do? Do you have a better idea? "
They can obviously get away with it,but this is what it is(common pig activity.)Is this not what pigs do? Repeatedly take more than their share, and then boast that they have done it.Why would you get upset when somebody calls pig activity..."pig activity." |

You say 200 million but how much is actually on the field? If you take into account injuries, what they trot out evey day is actually in the range of what the other contenders do. The 200 million has not been wisely spent. Cashman is the most overrated GM in the business. |

Soriano lives the off-season in L.A...I must have missed him...I'd much rather have a reliever that can close somebody down in the 7th 'n 8th.It is amazing how clubs think they need one thing(when they really need another.)Simply denial. Most overlooked piece of the puzzle is the guy who pitches the 7th,and 8th.My God, can't they understand this? Look back at who won the 2002 W Series, and you will see the piece OF THE PUZZLE THAT FIT IN RIGHT BEFORE PERCIVAL FINISHED THE GAMES OFF(a very young guy named KROD.)That game yesterday was a huge message to the Halos(get somebody to hold games in the 7th,and 8th.)They don't want to hear it("Shields just had a bad outing..get off his back.")They may get a division using that guy to pitch the 8th inning against Baltimore etc.,but when it takes top class nad,he will come up with wild pitches 'n dogsht over the plate. They need somebody who wants that situation(get through an inning or 2 n' then KROD them.)Halos don't have it.None of those guys you saw yesterday got the nad.The organization is in deep denial about it,and needs to pick up a blazer.A GUY WHO IS tough to hit for the 1st 25 pitches.THESE OTHER HACKS GOT TO GO.Romero got to go.Donnelley got to go.This (God hear our prayers)I know. What about the Houston closer that they want to throw under the truck?Anybody seen his stuff lately? Headcase may be the right guy to pitch an inning or 2.Take some pressure of closing a ballgame out away from him.WHAT'S HIS NAME? Ledge?

HERE IS THE GUY.Halos need to get this guy for the piece of the puzzle that gets them to KROD.No more closer role.Just do the 7th or 8th and shut the f up.
-------------------------------------------------- Rangers interested in Lidge By JOSE DE JESUS ORTIZ Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The Texas Rangers have asked about acquiring Astros closer Brad Lidge, who might bring third baseman Hank Blalock in return. Also, a top Baltimore Orioles scout was back at Minute Maid Park on Saturday watching the Astros, who remain in negotiations with the Orioles in hopes of acquiring All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada. There might not be a fit with the Orioles, but the Astros also remain in the hunt for Washington outfielder Alfonso Soriano. Lidge, who pitched a perfect ninth inning Saturday to earn his 23rd save, might have collected his last save with the Astros. Lidge is 0-3 with a 5.62 ERA. As of Tuesday, the Detroit Tigers had not asked the Astros about Lidge. But the Tigers, who also are looking for relief help, had a scout at Minute Maid Park on Saturday. "I have a new philosophy," Astros general manager Tim Purpura said. "Until you have a deal, there's no such thing as close or far. You have a deal or don't have a deal." Purpura is eager to make a deal, as long as it's the "right deal." "It's still extremely strong," Purpura said of his desire to make a deal. "Again, you want to make the right deal. There are guys you can have as rentals, but the prices are way high." |
