Arrow 2/6 (GP 8): Turf Sprint Project -- R2

  • Pick 1 horse as your winner with brief thoughts on attributes or what appeals to you about why the runner can or will win...
  • Any comments on the race are welcome of course...
  • We will feature 2 of these turf sprints or so per week for a while to see if collectively we can spot trends or angles that can be considered uniform in these tricky races.

Fri. 2/6: GULFSTREAM 8th (4:43)

This race is harder to pick apart....

Choice... Ward's Regardlessofoutcome... Note Sire's turf and first turf %'s
sent to Oaklawn to try stakes.... (would not have done so unless he liked the colts chances) Has some quicks and will get the rail... Trujillo has a Win and a Place with the colt...

But there are things to like about the rest

#1 Big Al Cordes last race a good 112 workout on the turf... Divito's sprint/route/sprint numbers & Karlsson's experience with the horse

#3 Bounissimo same connections as my pick for Thursday's race (Robbins, McPeek, KD) Flashed speed 1st turf and last route race...

#4 Notecard Coa/Trombetta a good combination but Chapel Royal's chillun haven't done too well on turf and Dam's 9 babies to race haven't won on turf!!

#5 Purely by chance... Gotta look at milton's 1st on Grass numbers but a beat slower than these...

#6 Put it back Twenty... the fastest of the "calder" horses in here... a win on the turf and Prado stays

#8 La Vengansa... can't find an angle I love but I can't dismiss...

#9 Under Contract Prichard brings Leyva over for a seldom GP start..
has some speed but Put it back Twenty has beat him twice...

Awfully hard to get past the #2 Regardlessofoutcome but will hope that the pace battle softens him up for #1 Big Al Cordes.

I see him leading the 2nd flight of horses and staying on the rail then making a move in the stretch. Totally overmatched in last, workout on 1-27 seems to indicate he came out of it ok. Karlsson should know how to handle the horse and should be getting more familiar with GP also. Turf stats not great for DiVito but this is one of his success stories on the grass.

Agree with Gate Dancer, this is #2 Regardlesofoutcome race to lose, but saying that I would never play a big favorite here.

I rather like the #8 La Vengansa here coming off the pace. Not a breeding expert by any means but this horse ought to move forward on the grass. Interested to know if the Dam's stakes win was on the lawn and would think so out of Red Ransom. Trainer with few starts actually showing a positive ROI. Nice 1/17 work makes me think this ones sitting on a good race

under contract-several others are making their first start on the lawn, and under contract has already shown success there. i think the return to a surface he has shown past success on will return him to the winners circle.

put it back twenty is intriguing, but figure under contract offers more value.
