![]() Well folks it's starting to happen
Tom Golisano has left the state of NY and is heading south to the tax haven state of Florida The lastest budget is the straw that broke this camels back ... how much longer will we have to live with these clowns up in Albany .... all they do is raise taxes and spending with this indivdual leaving NY say bye bye to his $4mm + tax check he is going to send to Albany We can't keep growing a budget at more than double the rate of inflation for ever - it just will have to end at some point We keep spending more and more on education and the graduation rates keep falling - not a good investment hey? 15/20 of the highest taxed counties are in the empire state steve and other from NY , what can we do to end this madness , these fools in Albany just keep humming along as though there is nothing but blank checks for them to fill out |

![]() we do and we don't - patterson was not elected , it would have been very interesting to see if spitzer cut anything rather than just raise taxes and spend more

I am not surprised at what Golisano is doing, nor can I blame him and in the long run these idiots in Albany are going to shoot themselves in the foot and ultimately take in less tax revenue than they did prior to the tax increases. Those who have worked really hard to be successful are going to flee New York and are going to live in places where politicians can keep spending and taxing at reasonable levels, elminate waste and appreciate the large amounts of tax money the wealthy already contribute to government without trying to insult them by penalizing them for working hard to make a lot of money. Gales is right, the real big problem right now is that Wall Street will no longer be a large source of revenue for New York as electronic advances have made the floor itself obsolete eliminating the need for people to be here in New York to play the market. The only possible silver lining is that the Democrats are destroying this state so badly that they may hand a landslide victory to a struggling Republican party who will have the golden opportunity to try to reverse New York's problems by cutting taxes and spending. |

![]() how spending can just go on and on in these times is outrageous , but the unions control a lot of votes in Albany and they are going to put people in power who will give them what they want
i don't agree with everything golisano does , but , in this case how is he not right , at some point you just can't keep raising taxes on top income earners , it just isn't sustainable, wall st sent a lot of tax $ to albany every year and a lot of the firms have gone busto - the spending spree cannot go on forever - don't for get the $ from the feds this year won't be here 2-3 years from now , where is albany going to make up the loss of these funds - it's simple it's going to come from middle class workers across the state through higher property taxes , school taxes and income taxes unless of course the cut spending , which is highly unlikely |

The federal money isn't a problem. New York has had a policy that we serve every customer who comes through our doors at the One Stop Centers around the state. Then the customers with the most need are given advanced training services with the normal money we get from the feds for the WIA program. All that the additional stimulus money is being used for is to be able to offer training for a much larger percentage of the customer base and to fund a summer youth employment program. Once the stimulus money is gone we will revert to how it was before. For the stimulus money provided for UI, the state just extended unemployment benefits to 72 weeks. Once the stimulus money is gone the number of benefit weeks will be reduced. So no problem once that money is gone. Contrary to popular belief the states can't simply take the stimulus money and use it to fund existing programs in place of normal funds. It has to be used for an expansion of service which will simply be contracted when the stimulus money runs out. |
