Indian Burn's win couldn't be a better demonstration of the adage that pace makes a race and demonstrate the context in which speed figures can be misleading, incredible how the only closer in a field full of speed can win a race against horses clearly faster than her and do it at a very good price. I personally love these opportunities, it will be interesting to see if she will be overbet when she meets a field without such a favorable setup.

I think she might have been the best horse either way. Not enough to go by with so few figs for each horse and her maiden breaker was much better than the fig would lead you to believe. She'll never be a world beater, but she's a useful little horse. Good for Hertler. . .

The pace and running line for his San Pasqual effort was eerily similar to Zenyatta's in the Lady's Secret where she earned a mere 97 Beyer.

Based on that, he's eligible to toss out a 110+ Beyer next out in the Big Cap at 10f, assuming he gets a reasonable pace and faces a full field of turf horses.

We'll see what happens when he faces some real horseflesh again. Not the easiest thing in the world to step up no matter how good a horse might be. Let's see how long it also takes this horse to "recover" from this "effort" as well.
