I know it's not the best year for the Big East but they will get more than 5 teams IMO. One or two more teams out of Marquette, Louisville, USF, Notre Dame etc.... will get in

My take, I can't do seedings:

ACC (5)
Locks - Duke
Should Be In - Maryland, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Work to Do - Clemson, Florida State, Virginia

Big 12 (6)
Locks - Kansas, Kansas State
Should Be In - Missouri, Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M
Work to Do - Oklahoma State, Texas Tech

Big East (6)
Locks - Syracuse, Villanova, West Virginia, Georgetown
Should Be In - Pittsburgh, Marquette
Work to Do - Louisville, Notre Dame, South Florida, Cincinnati, Connecticut

Big Ten (5)
Locks - Purdue, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State
Should Be In - Illinois
Work to Do - Minnesota, Northwestern

SEC (4)
Locks - Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Should Be In - Florida
Work to Do - Mississippi State, Mississippi, South Carolina

Pac 10 (1)
Locks - California
Work to Do - Arizona State, Southern California, Washington

Mountain West (3)
Locks - New Mexico, Brigham Young
Should Be In - UNLV
Work to Do - San Diego State

A-10 (4)
Locks - Xavier, Richmond, Temple
Should Be In - Rhode Island
Work to Do - Charlotte, Dayton

Conference USA (2)
Should Be In - UTEP, UAB

If there aren't at least two CAA teams in the tournament, the selection committee should be sent to prison.

I hope you're right, but my boys have a tough schedule left. Road games at KSU and Baylor along with home games against KU and Texas could easily add up to four losses. That would basically mean they would need to win the rest of their other games (including two more conference road games) and maybe win a conference tournament game to get in.

Not that it was likely to make a difference, but if Carolina had any shot of slipping into the dance, chances are almost for certain over as Ed Davis is out for next 6 weeks with a broken wrist.

Since the expanded tourney format, when was the last time the defending champ did not make the tourney the next year?

Yeah, the schedule is the only reason I didn't have them as a lock. Still, they should be able to win one of those four games you mention, they have the win over Kansas State and a few decent nonconference wins (Old Dominion, Illinois) on neutral courts. 4-3 the rest of the way gets them in, and even 3-4 wouldn't be a death sentence, considering that they'd still be >.500 in the #1 RPI conference.

The inability to block out on a missed free throw cost them the Baylor game.
The team has been a bit frustrating this year, and may be underachieving a bit (although last year's team probably overachieved). Still, compared to anything we experienced during the Quin Snyder era, this team is a whole lot of fun to watch.

I know I'm biased because I am an alumnus of a CAA school but it's a very, very good conference this year. However, VCU really shot themselves in the foot this week losing twice on the road, Northeastern probably didn't do enough in the nonconference, and W&M has a couple very disappointing losses (by 1 and 2 points). ODU is inching closer to lock status. If W&M can finish strong I think they will get in. The rest need to win the conference tournament.

My Hoyas got a chance to make a run. They are shooting the basketball great, both from the field and the line. Greg Monroe is one the best passing big man I've seen, coming off a 12 assist game. Always look forward to March Madness!

Syracuse/Uconn was a good game. Lots of intensity and good play though the call on the timeout was terrible.

Bracket as of 3/3:
S-CURVE SEED TEAM
1 1 Syracuse
64 16 Lehigh
65 16 Jackson State
32 8 California
33 9 UNLV
17 5 Tennessee
48 12 San Diego State
16 4 Baylor
49 13 Dayton
8 2 Villanova
57 15 Coastal Carolina
25 7 Texas
40 10 Old Dominion
9 3 Ohio State
56 14 Sam Houston State
24 6 Xavier
41 11 Siena
4 1 Duke
61 16 UC Santa Barbara
29 8 Clemson
36 9 Utah State
20 5 Butler
45 12 Virginia Tech
13 4 Temple
52 13 Murray State
5 2 Kansas State
60 15 Stony Brook
28 7 Wake Forest
37 10 UTEP
12 3 Vanderbilt
53 14 Oakland
21 6 Texas A&M
44 11 Saint Mary's College
3 1 Kentucky
62 16 Belmont
31 8 Missouri
34 9 Florida State
19 5 BYU
46 12 Florida
14 4 Wisconsin
51 13 Notre Dame
7 2 New Mexico
58 15 Morgan State
27 7 Richmond
38 10 Connecticut
11 3 Pittsburgh
54 14 Wofford
22 6 Maryland
43 11 UAB
2 1 Kansas
63 16 Quinnipiac
30 8 Oklahoma State
35 9 Marquette
18 5 Michigan State
47 12 Louisville
15 4 Georgetown
50 13 Kent State
6 2 Purdue
59 15 Troy
26 7 Northern Iowa
39 10 Georgia Tech
10 3 West Virginia
55 14 Weber State
23 6 Gonzaga
42 11 Cornell

Some brutal teams on the cut line. Hoping for some top mid-major seeds to lose in their conference tournament finals to exclude these teams. While 96 teams sounds fun, some really undeserving teams would get in in years like this.

The BCS which almost everyone agrees should expand to a true playoff absolutely refuses to, The NCAA tourney which almost everyone agrees is close to perfect is almost assuredly going to expand. That is the NCAA in a nutshell.
