"A gift from God" should be the HOY . A miraculous filly , 30 lengths back , unbeaten in her career except for a long nose in the greatest of all races this year .

Haynesfield, 22 3/4 L behind the leaders at the finish of the BC, beat Blame by 4L in the JCGC . Blame is 13-9-2-2 lifetime . 5-4-1 this year. The defending BC champion Zenyatta loses her only race ever by a nose to Blame coming from 30L back . 20-19-1 lifetime, 6-5-1 this year . Clearly Zenyatta is HOY .

Wonderful read, thanks for posting.

(although I think the part about her submitting to Blame for breeding sounds like Sumitas wrote it)

I was just going to comment on that.
I almost threw up a little in my mouth after reading that paragraph.

So, a horse that has won no open Grade 1s all year, and is beaten on the track by another horse that is now 3 out of 4 in open Grade 1s this year, should be HOY ahead of him. Remember, each horse has lost only one race this year.

If the name was not Zenyatta, no horse racing fan in their right mind would make this argument. This is cultish behavior. Act like frigging adults already.

She lost by a nose and Blame lost by 4 L to the horse that finished 22 3/4 L behind both in the BC .

Kris S is the broodmare sire of Zenyatta and the grandsire of Blame .

And she would have lost that same race by 15 lengths on that lone-f pace scenario. You can't possibly be as big an idiot as you pretend to be, not if you still know how to breathe.

Now she was 30 lengths back? Stick to posting about Finger Lakes and Golden Missile.

She was 50 lengths back. Went 20 wide. Up the hill. Both ways. In the snow. Against 100 mph winds.......

Not only did she have to go against 100 mph headwinds, but everyone else got a 100 mph tailwind at the same time!

Actually, isn't it sort of the opposite? Shouldn't emotion be taken out of it?

Don't get me wrong, it was obviously a great racing moment, and while you didn't have to be at Churchill to feel it, I'm sure it was exponentially more electric being there. .

We all take our own perspective from things we read, see or hear based upon our experiences. To me, I thought the writer did a wonderful job in a few parts of the article expressing that moment when everyone at the track (regardless of background - whether they were a fan or bet on or against her) suddenly started cheering. I was surrounded by people who bet on Blame, I bet on Blame, but it was something that when she looked like she may just pull off you really, really wanted her to. I can't explain things like that, but I think it is cool when I read something by someone who can.

I hope to forever remain ignorant of what it feels like to root against yourself.

so her close second outweighs all the bs racing she did the rest of the year? if she doesn't get hoy, it isn't her fault. that responsibility lies squarely on her owners shoulders.

Obviously. They put all their chips on red and it came up black. It isn't much harder than that to understand.

Was that racing moment on Saturday any more electric than dozens of other horse racing moments that happen yearly? From a betting perspective, I get just as jazzed up about a head bob in the seventh at LRL as I did for the Classic the other night.
